As the topic states...
Cosmetic, interior, exterior.
Mechanical, engine, drivetrain, besides the LSD.
have the chance to buy a 91 to drive and 92 for parts, need to know what's swappable and what's not..
Pic of them side by side would be nice as well.
Thx guys

i think we went over this m8---
do a search-
almost everything swaps---except the front and rear body parts beside the spoiler. also the 91 got chrome door handels and the 92-94 got color keyed

I believe the only real differences between 91 and 92 are the exterior, meaning lights fenders and bumpers? The rest should be interchangeable.

That's pretty much what I thought too.
Was kind of hoping that the front end, lights and whatnot could swap easily...
Color keyed Door handles...
I wonder, Dark Grey 91 with black door handles.. wonder how that would look...

there are actually a fair amount of differences, too many to list, some more subtle then others. Anything to ECU bit, to fenders, combination meter, rear brake lenses, badging, etc, etc.

Well, let me put cosmetic differences aside for the moment and just discuss functional differences:
ABS system: Most (maybe all) 91s used Bosch ABS; Most (maybe all) 92-94s used Nippon ABS. The Nippon system has the capability to control all wheels independently, but always sends the exact same pressure to both rear wheels. This is done to avoid inducing yaw. Apparently the Bosch system does not do this and instead just tries to keep each wheel independently at its traction threshold.
Headlamps: 91s have poor headlamps (both in terms of intensity and in beam pattern). 92-94s have rather good headlamps if they're in good condition. All have plastic lenses which can yellow, reducing performance greatly. Stock wiring is also relatively poor and does hinder performance as well.
Other lighting: 91s have turn signals only visible from the front, and have no front sidemarker lights. 92-94s turn signals mounted on the corner, as well as having sidemarker lights. However, the turn signal lamp also functions as a parking light, so the turn signal goes bright-dim-bright-dim rather than bright-off-bright-off. 91 taillights are just at the sides, while 92-94 taillights include the middle portion of the trunk.
Drivetrain: Some 91s have a viscous limited-slip differential in the rear. Supposedly it was still an option through 94, but if it's there at all it's very rare.
Motor: 91s have oil-water heat exchangers. 92-94s do not. The exchanger helps warm the oil more quickly when cold, and then maintain oil temperature once the engine is warmed up.
ECU: There have been five part numbers for the ECU: 22611AA690 through 22611AA694. They do all interchange with one another, however. I do not know what changes were made to the code through the revisions.
Suspension: The rear suspension has cone-shaped springs on 91s, making many of the other parts a little different too. 92-94s have the same rear suspension design as many later Subarus, with non-tapered springs.
Airbags: I don't believe any 91s have airbags. A driver-side airbag was optional in 92 and standard in 93 and 94.
I think that about covers it... Feel free to correct or add as appropriate.

91s look better.... Just kidding, it's subjective, although I may be a little biased

to add abit, black window trim bits have more chrome on the 90-91's, E-brake button is chrome on the earlier ones, 92-94 were black. Dummy lights were different on the gauge cluster in 91-91-including a stop light-tells you if a brake light bulb is out. On the lower rear quarter panels hidden behind the bumper skin 90-91 had a rubber wind flapping vent to circulate air through the rear quarters/trunk, 92-94 had only solid plastic peices in place which didn't vent at all. Plus many others that I havn't noticed yet.
Mark,
