Joe P Customer service

Here's the background:

On November 15th, I ordered a Joe P boost controller through his website, since many people on here have said they are happy with the product. I payed through Paypal.

On the 17th (monday), I sent the following message:
I ordered one of your XZ models on saturday, and I'm just wondering when you think it'll be shipped. My stock boost control solenoid on my 93 Subaru Legacy Turbo has quit recently, and I want to bypass it with your MBC.
With the following response on the same day:
It should be going out by mid-week. I have recently moved and am trying to get setup, build in a "makeshift" work shop and get unpacked all at the same time :). I ship through the USPS. Thanks.
Joe
So, that's fine, no problem. On the 28th, I still haven't heard anything, so I sent the following message:
Hi Joe, I still haven't received this, and I'm wondering if its just slow in the mail, or if it hasn't shipped yet. Please let me know. Thanks.

Ryan
With this response on the same day:
No, I just didn't get as many done as I thought I needed. I had sold more items than I realized and ran out of built units very quickly... Well, that coupled with a TON of FCD orders because no one thought they would need one, then the temps dropped and they went crazy ordering them because they started fuel cutting. So I had to try to keep up with them too...
Well, finally this morning, December 2nd, I sent this email to him:
Joe,

If I don't receive confirmation of my order shipping by tomorrow evening (Wednesday the 3rd of December), I'm going to have to ask you to refund my money and cancel my order. I'm not happy that my order has not been shipped for more than two weeks, but my VISA has already been billed long ago. I guess I'll have to look at a Hallman...
He obviously wasn't happy, because he sent me this response back:
You know what, Enjoy your Hallman- I am going to refund your money in a little while. I do not got for this sniveling "I'll buy your competitors" crap- I am not Wal-Mart.. My site says in big red letters- NOTICE- While I try to get parts out as fast as possible, delays can happen. If you are in a rush or just curious about availability, please email sales@joepmbc.com prior to ordering.- (copy/pasted right from the site)- it is on top of the Mazdaspeed page and was on top of the products page until last night when I updated my site and moved it to the bottom. Anyway, point being- as mentioned in big red letters, you should have contacted me prior to check on things. I am one person with a life, a full time job, hobbies, etc. I am not some mass producing conglomerate with hundreds of minimum wage assemblers like most people are unfortunately accustomed to these days. I explained my situation to you in my last email.

As for the charge- I DO NOT charge your card, if I did- I would wait until the order is shipped. You WILLING send me money through PayPal and they charge your card.

Lol, how's that for irony- I just looked at the items I packed last night and yours was one of them. At least I have an extra one to send to a more considerate customer. Good day.
Joe
So, I guess I will be ordering a Hallman, as soon as I can confirm that my money has indeed been refunded to Paypal. This has been a lovely customer service experience, and I hope it isn't repeated for anyone here.

Edit: Spelling

Hmmm... sounds like he was straightforward.

A little over-reaction on the unnecessary "Hallman" comment.

I wouldn't call that "bad" customer service even though you did have to prod him for updates... which he definitely needs to work on.

I dunno, maybe it was unfair of me to say that, but I was trying to light a fire under his arse to send me something I'd paid for two and a half weeks before. It seemed like he was spending his time producing a more profitable product instead of doing them in the order he received them. I'm just cheesed off at this whole situation, especially since after all this wait I'm going to have to spend more money on a different brand controller.

Well, Joe just emailed me back, and we've agreed I guess that we were both overreacting. Moderators, go ahead and delete this thread.

As far as I know, we've never had a thread deleted on Legacy Central...

I don't think this thread should be deleted. Just edit the top post to reflect the fact that there is more below so people don't get the wrong idea off the bat.

In my opinion, it's lousy customer treatment to not give them a time frame when they order. But he's right that his web site does indicate that you may have to wait an arbitrary amount of time for your merchandise.

On a side note, you may consider just going to a hardware store and getting the pieces needed to build your own MBC. You can build something very similar to a Joe P MBC using a brass tee, two barbed fittings, two ball bearings, a utility spring, a fine-thread nut and bolt, some teflon tape, and some epoxy. It should cost you significantly less too.

Yes, you're right... I've certainly never looked for deleted threads... just didn't seem like something we ever did. Dupes are different, though...
