Impreza Strut tower bars on a Legacy

Well, here's the so called official write-up on the strut tower bars I got from procarparts.com

here's background on them http://www.bbs.legacycentral.org/viewtopic.php?t=1347

Well the front bar went in with a little hickup. The bolt that holds the bracket to the bar got stripped out. It rounded the threads very badly. Had to cut off the nut.

No biggy though. I just got 4 bucks worth of high strength bolts and nylone lock washers to replace the cheapo bolts. I think one of the big issues or reason this happen was they chromed the threads.....that's a no-no, the chrome chips can flake off and probably cause the problem I had.

Anyway, the front's on.....results, it feels better, but I can't really be too sure since I added a larger rear sway bar this past weekend.

The rear bar decided to be a little more difficult. The angle at which the plates come out of the little holes cause it to hit the side of the hole. I'm pretty sure I can grind down the metal and make them fit. I just don't have the tools and place to do it right now. So the rear bar will not get installed for a month or two.

Here's some pics

Neat, definitely the same bar i got off ebay, cept the part on the strut towers is a complete circle on mine.

I imagine my rear bar is the same one you got too. I was able to just slightly bend the mounts that attach to the bar to get it to fit (goes to show the strength of these things :) )

Yeah I didn't think about that. They didn't seem to bend too easily, and I don't know if everything would line up. When I get some more time, I'll have to play.

What I put on was a strut tower brace, not a sway bar.

Pics are down because my server is down.

Go here http://www.bbs.legacycentral.org/viewtopic.php?t=1347 and you can find out more info on where I ordered them and such.

I got the rear bar on, and let me tell ya I do notice a difference. The only thing I've changed is the bar and I rotated my tires. I don't think changing the tires around is going to affect things.

The car is much more responsive when turning the wheel, and is less squirmy. I need to definitely get some more time in the car before I can give you a final update, but first impression is pretty good. Plus I don't hear some of the creaks and noises I normally hear when turning into the parking garage at work.

Here's pics for the rear bar.

So will basically any year strut bar from the impreza's fit on our cars? or are we secluded to a span of years? if so which ones?

Every strut bar up to the bodystyle change should fit, in the front for sure, some of the rears might be different.

Where'd you get the hood scoop for your NA?

Wow. . . that's actually quite a lot of aftermarket support, when you think about it. 8)

Well....I bought the turbo hood from the dealer, and the hood scoop came from the POS hood I bought from junkyard and had shipped to me, thinking it would be good.

What do you all think of this? For 13 bucks(buy it now price) I think it might be worth it just to test it out. But then again, at that price it might be too cheaply made or maybe it's just cheap like that? Anyways does it sound too cheap?

Also what is the reason the 02-present bars wont fit? Is it the way the bolts are or the size of the top or just the distance between the struts?

I don't know....the bar setup looks pretty close to the one I have.

For that price......I guess you really can't go wrong.

As for the 02 models not fitting. I think the bolt pattern, or something to do with how they're are laid out doesn't fit the older cars.....

just don't forget the $18 shipping.

That's pretty much the bar i have, though shipping wasn't as expensive.

MK

I'm fairly certain but just wanted to check for sure...

Will lower arm bars, sway bars, end links and struts from the gc impreza fit our bc/bfs? Or are we just limited to the strut bars?

Posted: Wed Oct 29, 2003 2:58 am
by Legacy777
What exactly are the lower arm bars?

Sway bars....no I don't think they will work.

End links will work.

Struts technically will work, but may not have high enough damping...depends on the strut...

Endlinks and struts will fit, front swaybar will fit (n/a only i think), as will the STBs.

The rear sway bars will not fit, as the legacy has a larger spare tire well.

this is a lower arm bar, its basically a strut bar but on the underside of the strut.

DLC has a lower arm bar, they fit the turbo models, i'm not sure if his was meant for a legacy or an impreza.
