Or does it seem like lately everyone's been having more problems with their cars. I know we all have stuff we need to fix. But it seems like theres more topics here lately about something breaking or something leaking or something burning. Perhaps I'm just overanalysing but seems like more repair topics than modification topics.

I know what you mean. I went through a heavy period of repair, then just went through a period of modding and now have another repair issue

My cars doing crazy shit right now. I think it goes in cycles. Repair car to make it run good, mod car to make it better, break car, repair car to make it run good, mod to make it better, break car.
Or is it just me?

Well, our cars are old. Service and maintenance is a big part of owning a 10 to 14 year old car. Moreover, most of us bought them used from people who probably didn't take really good care of them.
I think a lot of board members are doing work themselves that a while ago they would have just had a shop do. I know that's true for me. The community we've created makes us more self-reliant (by allowing us to rely on each other for advice and help). So that's my guess as to why we have more posts about this stuff than we used to.

I don't modify my car anymore. It got to the point where I couldn't do any more mods because I was too busy fixing, and I can't stand modding a car with problems, doesn't make sense to me. My motto is "You can't make a car run fast until you make it run good"...
So I turned to making it a restoration project. In that case, fixing it is part of the project, so progress is actually being made.
And I feel that I, probably more than anyone else on this board, have taken on the most repair work myself compared to what I used to do. When I got the car, I did nothing besides spark plugs and air filters. I did my first oil change a little over a year ago!

Now I'm gonna do my first tranny drop here really soon. And yes, this board has been the biggest help

Ill agree that our cars need a little more maintenence at their age, but most of the things that have broke on my car seem to be things that would need to be replaced after 10 years or so, fuel pump, seals, steering/drivetrain boots, but I do have a nasty power steering fluid leak.

and a leaky power steering fluid cap

Winter tends to accentuate the minor problems a vehicle is having. Temperature obviously makes a difference in how your engine itself runs, performance wise; so why
wouldn't make a difference in reliability?
