Hehe...

I can handle high levels of picante-ness but I actually prefer when the person preparing the food exercises judgement and care to use the precise amount that accentuates the flavor of the food, and makes it linger longer in the mouth. It's not easy to do right.

Have any of you tried putting a little bit of cayenne pepper in hot cocoa? It works very well.

Curry is generally easier to handle because it often contains yogurt or coconut milk, either of which neutralizes some of the capsaicin.

You ain't seen shit until you come down south.

"hot" stuff in the nw is considered mild down here. I've grown accustom to it a little. I still don't like balls on fire hot food though.

Well I used to smoke about 2-3 packs a day and could pretty much eat fire and shit coals but since I quit smoking and my taste buds came back my tolerances have mild somewhat  I'm a huge tex-mex fan and love spice. I've never even noticed Curry being hot before but I've had some Pad Thia noodles that could melt your eye balls

My last job I worked with a lot of Cambodians and Vietnamese - ever try their hot peppers? They used to grow then themselves and eat them raw like nothing. Could make a bald southern guy's whole head bead with sweat! I had to eat them with something, but they were damn good. I don't like curry because of the revenge it extracts within a couple hours of eating it and the smell coming out your pores. Definitely not date food!

Please don't think I'm making racist generalizations here, but I'll bet I can eat fire right with the most pure of you Spanish types.

I remember eating at Hooters with some car guys, I was one of only two white guys there. The leader of the group, a Spanish guy, ordered us "911" wings, or as he said, the hottest they had.

After they were done, him and everyone else besides me and another Spanish guy had enough. They couldn't stomach it anymore. Me and the other guy finished off what they couldn't eat.

I can eat jalapeno peppers whole, I can eat pure horseradish. I haven't gone for habanero sauce yet though

I agree with Jason, when it hurts more coming out than it did going in, then we're talkin spicy!

Hehe... this reminds me of a story my freshman year of college.

There's a delicatessen-in-a-truck at Cornell University called Louie's Lunch. One day our first week of being here, two friends and I decide we'll go see how their food is. I decide to order a buffalo chicken sub. The guy asks me how spicy I want it. Being accustomed to most "spicy" food in this country, I tell him, "all the way." "All the way?" he asks. "All the way."

He musta laughed to himself making my sub... it was dripping in whatever sauce he used to make it spicy. I couldn't eat more than half of it, and I've got a high tolerance! Francisco condescendingly offers to take the rest of it off my hands and eat it himself... he can't handle a bite. John tries some too, and gives up after a couple bites...

An Indian (me), a Mexican (Francisco), and a Korean (John) couldn't finish the sandwich! After that I always had to order the sandwiches "almost all the way."

... I'm also reminded of the time my girlfriend and I were having soup at a Thai restaurant and she was using spoonfuls of my soup as hot sauce in her soup...

Josh, do you think you could freeze dry some authentic tex-mex and send it to me? The only mex I can get within 20 miles of here is Chi-Chi's and Taco Bell   and tex-mex is my favorite food! The only good T-M I get I cook myself. Out in Oregon there's pretty good tex- mex all over the place (especially southern Or). My brother in-law out there is from Austin and likes to cook. He also knows the REALLY GOOD places to go in the Rogue valley. :D

"The Man" from Dixie's BBQ. . . . HOT. :o

Gene is from Louisiana, and his recipe for hot BBQ sauce heralds from New Orleans, I think. That is HOT HOT HOT. And yes. . . IT HURTS the next day!

My wife is from Indonesia. Im so used to spice now that nothing ever tastes hot.

Most food from a local store labeled hot or spice tastes awful. Since I cant taste the hot usually covering up the flavor all I get is the aftertaste.
For example tobasco sauce doesnt phase me, it just tastes like vinegar.

At a local Thai resteraunt I have my photo on the wall three times for eating the "fire" spicy food. When I eat it the spice is so strong my mouth is numb and I can swallow. Its not something to enjoy though, just to good for showing off!

Oh and I have tasted pepper spray before.

we used to have something called "Da Bomb" that my dad picked up at the mall of America. It's habanero pepper extract or oil(cant remember) concentrate. it was pure craziness. we had horses at the time and sprayed it(dilute) on the tops of their wooden stalls to keep them from chewing on them. it was funny as hell when they tried to though.

My boss is a spicy food freak, he gets this habanero cheese that is some hot shite. Last time I had it I think I over did my serving size, I can put them down with some Tricuits but the next morning my ass was on fire  He also buys this "soupy" stuff that is awsome, also to be digested in moderation to thoe.

Yes we do have good Mex here in Southern OR. The hottest stuff I ever ate was in Korea, this soup that had a layer of oil from all the pepper on top. I loved the food over there.
