I should put them on the front, correct? Geez. I'm so bad at snow.

I'd never put chains on my car.

Stick to a good set of winters, studded if necessary, and a shovel, and a cell phone :)

If you do put chains on, I do believe Subaru says to only put them on the front.

No need for chains laurel. I can get up to the mountain no prob and my re720s are almost dead! Just downshift before you brake, much easier to control.

Don't downshift too fast, or you can put yourself into a spin/slide. It's much worse with a RWD vehicle then AWD....but still can be dicey if it's slick out.

You should always speed match down changes, especially in low traction situations. Saves the synchros and keeps the balance.

Okay, its an auto, and I just had to test fit. My mom's anal like that. I was pretty sure my car'd be fine, and it was. owned a saab coming up a hill. lol. it was probably in 3rd gear climbing this hill, when I stuck it in 2nd, and slowly accelerated up past it. ;)

Instead of spending the money on chains just get better tires. With a set of nice all seasons you can out manuever any truck with 4wd and chains! I know, I did it two weekends ago near the CA/NV border on a 10k feet peak with solid compacted snow covering the road.

I agree with ciper, I have snow tires on my legacy because eastern WA gets lots of snow, and I drive the pass to the western side often enough that I thought I'd try the snow tire thing, and I was shocked. I feel very secure on the road with them. On the get go, unless I want to, I never slip a tire.

The drove over Snoqualmie one year in my GL-10. It took us 7 hours to get over the pass, and took us 12 hours to get from Seattle to Tri-Cities. I only had streat tires on the car and they weren't that great anymore. The tires would slip every once in a while from a get go, but with careful driving it wasn't that bad. I did better than most of the other trucks and cars that were and weren't using chains. The pass was horrable as far as Ice and snow go. Plus it was still snowing and just after I got through they closed the pass. It was closed for over 7 hours.
