Wheel & Tire Upgrade Question for 92 Turbo Wagon

I've been wanting to upgrade the wheels & tires (15" and 195/60-15) on my 92 Turbo Wagon, but I'm not quite sure what will work. Answers to my following questions will help me out:

1) I'm looking at purchasing 16" wheels, but will those that are 7" wide fit, and what's should the offset be? I've heard that stock WRX wheels (16x6.5) will work very handsomely, but unfortunately they are too expensive if purchased brand new at the dealer, and good used ones are hard to find.

2) As for the tires, I've heard that 205/55-16 will work, but will the wheelwells have enough room for 215/50-16s?

My first attempt at this upgrade was a disaster since the tires' (205/55-16) sidewalls were rubbing against the shocks and fenders while driving the car with moderate to heavy loads and/or over bumps and semi-fast cornering. I'm betting that this was caused by the 16x7.5 wheels. I can upgrade to a 17" wheel/tire combination, but I feel that there are too little choices for 205/45-17 tires that I can use with my car (which is still driven almost daily, sometimes with kids). Your responses will be greatly appreicated. 'Thanks in advance.

Eric

48mm to 53mm IIRC with 53mm being the best. Some guys are running 17X7 wheels without problem.

:? I had no problem finding mine. I got all 4 oem WRX wheels with almost new re92 for $200 total and they are pretty much mint. Look on i-club and NASIOC. At one time Tirerack.com had them for $88 a piece and right now Primitive has them for about $113 a piece. The oem WRX wheels look really good on the Legacy and I have had absolutely no rubbing issues but a couple of others have had rubbing issues but I think this is mainly on N/A Legacys' not the turbo Legacys'.

You don't want as large an offset when going with larger wheels & wider rims. I'd suggest around +45mm- +50mm offset. Somewhere in the middle would be just fine.

I have 16x7 wheels with +45mm offset. They rubbed slight in the rear on the inside fenderwell. I think this also has to do with my car being FWD. the rear hubs are different.

You should be able to easly get away with 205/50 r16. You may be able to get away with 215/50 r16 I'd like to try 215/45 r16 on mine.....but we'll see if I try it the next time I need new tires.

Here's a guy on NASIOC asking $300 for a set of oem WRX 16" wheels with tires that have 80% tread left.

Thank you very much. I just sent the guy an e-mail, as well as another person in the same forums that is also selling a set. Wish me luck!

Rota Slipstream. Good offset (48). 7 inch wide. 13 pounds. Strong. CHEAP.

I took my WRX wheels off for these. Plus they look good on a subaru, not like most of the aftermarket crap.

If you want 17x7.5 look at the Rota Battle, also perfect for the subaru. Do a search in the vendor classifieds on nasioc for user Subydude. You will need to use aftermarket lugnuts
Here is an old thread where I talk about them http://bbs.legacycentral.org/viewtopic.php?t=2115
