Under the dash, above the fuse area there's a little green light in there that flashes like 3-4 times when the key is in the on position. Here's a pic. Does anyone know what it is?

I can't tell exactly where the camera is and where it's aimed, but are you taking a picture of your ECU?

Some early ECUs had little LEDs on the side for diagnostic purposes. I remember once I hooked up an ECU to a power supply on my desk and it started reading out every single code through that LED. Too bad there isn't a single code for "car missing."

I'm pretty sure he's looking under the dash to the left of the steering wheel. You can see part of the fuse box there, so its not the ECU. Mine does the same thing. I have no idea what it is, although it may be connected to the ECU.

its taken under the dash, with my head in the footwell, right by the brake and stuff I don't know if it's connected to the ecu or not. I updated the pic but I dunno if you need a better one lmk

Isn't that where the ECU is mounted?

Wait. I got confused with my sister's Maxima for some reason and was thinking the ECU was under the console on the pass side. I've been there a few times and it's got less than half the miles.

Right... I think the LED is on the ECU.

It's the ECU, and that green light is the "O2" monitoring light. It will flash when the O2 sensor receives a signal once it's warm. If you take notice, when you start your car the light will not be on. As it warms up, the light will start to flash with slightly faster speed.

Could someone help me locate the error code LED (or computer) in my 91 legacy (non turbo, no ABS). I can drive the car for an hour+ with no problems if I turn the engine off & restart while the engine is still warm I get a check engine light. Park it for a few hrs & no light when it starts or drives.
found this.. http://www.troublecodes.net/Subaru/
just need to find the right LED.
Thanks

What better way to find an answer to a really common question than to dig up a year and a half old thread?

Gee whiz 91 with witty little remarks like that no wonder you've got so many posts..

I tried about a dozen searches for your "really common question" & put in my time reading. Besides ABS related LEDs this thread was all I came up with.

Now have you got an answer? Can you point me to a thread or picture?? Or will you just dazzle us with your sharp wit once again?
I can't wait to find out...

The LED you're looking for is actually the Check Engine Light. Read this: http://www.surrealmirage.com/subaru/engine.html

Now that procedure I never would have guessed. My Chilton's manual let me down & sent me astray on this one.
Very much appreciated THAWA!!!

Don't take it too personally.

The 90-91 ECU's have an LED on the circuit board that flashes the error codes as well as the check engine light.

You can see it in these pics

Thanks 777, from the looks of this pic http://www.main.experiencetherave.com:8 ... cuhide.jpg
I'm going to try a dental mirror to see the LED. I'll post the results.

And 91.. don't worry, i know it's not personal.. Thing is, when you post, the thread is bumped to the top of the list and read by mods & others looking to help. When you post nonsense you become part of the problem rather than the solution.
So, if you're really in that much need of attention.. call your mom & tell her you love her!

don't even bother with the led. The Check engine light will tell you the same thing and is a lot easier to see.

The leads on the black jumper connectors were so short it was a royal pain to connect them.. but it worked like a charm once I got it.
Thanks to all for the assist!
Off to search for tips on replacing the O2 sensor. :)
