Dammit, the SVX DID have VTD!!!

I read on a few random official subaru pages hinting that the VTD Auto in the 02 wrx was nothing new.
Nasioc "experts" wouldn't here of it. The 02 WRX was revolutionary and new.
They didnt think it was odd that the WRX and SVX where the only ones to ever get the odd 3.54 differential
I even posted an image of the WRX center differential and the SVX and they looked identicle. Now I have proof.

I feel so much better now. Just shows that even those considered experts on the forums aren't always right. Also just because 10 people say your wrong it doesnt mean that its true!
Now on a related topic, did the SVX have the manual button on the shifter?

Ciper, if there's one thing I've learned about a lot of folks up on Nasioc, is they're not all as open-minded as they claim to be.
I caught all kinds of hell because ONE person claimed I didn't invite ALL Subbies to the STi/Evo meet last week. . .. when I brought up my original thread clearly stating that everyone WAS, in fact, invited. . . . (was an unaltered and unedited post, mind you) . . . . ten minutes later one of the mods deleted the entire thread from the forum.
Guess some of the "OG" folks over there have WAYYYYY too much pride. . . .
. . . . in themselves.

Eh, either that or many of them have insecurities which make it hard for them to welcome new members to the board.

My take on it is that VTD has been around since the early 90s, but it's not clear which markets got the SVX with VTD.
I don't think the United States did, since Subaru released a TSB talking about the multiplate transfer clutch binding which applied to Legacies and SVXes both:

The 3rd-party SVX wiring diagrams I've seen also include an FWD fuse, and I remember people mentioning the fuse in posts elsewhere.
As for NASIOC, that's one of the reasons I don't go on there so much...

So... who has a friend with an SVX? All we want to know is whether or not there's a fuse underhood near the passenger strut tower labeled "FWD."

my friend used to have one, but it cost him too much to repair so he sold it to some kid who crashed it the next week. :\

Incidentally, by "SVX", at the time of usual, it is set as the non-等配分 ratio of front wheel side 36.4-/rear wheel side 63.6, distribution according to the run state is performed by work of LSD according this ratio to an electronic control oil pressure multi-board clutch (MP-T), and variable control of the torque distribution of an order ring is carried out from 36:64 to direct connection (50:50).
Not like this is an authoritative source or anything, but to me it sounds like he's saying the SVX's VTD system was still based on a multiplate transfer clutch, but set up "backwards" as compared to our Legacies; drive always goes to the rear and the MPT clutch can send some to the front. The default split is 36/64, but the MPT clutch can fully lock up if necessary, making the split 50/50.
Interestingly, it also lists the final drive ratio as 3.700 rather than the 3.545 US models got.
Many other Japanese pages I've found also mention the "36/64" figure and the 3.700 final drive, and a few others also speak of an oil-pressure-controlled clutch involved in the VTD which can go to 50/50.
A 36/64 split isn't possible with the 4WD system in 4EAT BC/BFs, so unless all these Japanese guys are making up the same lies, there's gotta be a different system. If I understand it right (a big "if"), there could still be a "2WD" fuse, but it would lock into RWD rather than FWD. I doubt Subaru would label an "RWD" fuse "FWD."
So... yes, I think I agree. I think the US market got the "normal" setup while at least some overseas markets got a VTD.
I don't know anything about the current VTD system, so I don't know if the SVX's VTD system is the same or different.

The US market SVX does not have VTD,and they do have the FWD fuse like the Legacy.

I think I can put some of the confusion to rest for you. The SVX models do not
come with VTD, as VTD was introduced here in the United States in 2001, along
with our VDC Wagon. Your SVX model year was not mentioned, but I can tell you
that the 1992-1994 models were equipped with Subaru's standard AWD system. The
1995-1997 models had the limited slip differential.
I hope this information is helpful to you and answers your question, but should

Last week I had a freind have an invite deleted and he was docked "points" because it was deemed to be a commercial post because it was for the Cobb meet in May. Us members of Cobb's forum put together this national meet and Cobb just agreed to let us have it at their facility. Nothing commercial about it at all. I believe this occurred in the NW regional forum. And turns out the Mod had one bad experience with Cobb a few years ago and now anything Cobb bothers them (names have not been mentioned to protect the guilty)

There are quite a few people over there who need to get over themselves. I am member #832, but literally did not log on for 2 years because I was so fed up with their BS...Back on topic...
Good to know about the SVX tranny. My option for my build get wider everyday.

I know what you mean. I'm member 2697 (because I was just trolling around the boards for 6 months or so before I signed up) and I have seen the board completely degrade over the years. I think it's just the sheer number of people that are on that board nowadays . . .
