I would like to turn the subaru into a strick summer car but I cant afford it.

Also living in Canada I really do need this car for when it snows but I feel so guilty cause I know I am just rusting the shit out of it.

Another reason is that the car has almost 220km on it and shit will bust soon and cost big $$$.

Maybe you guys could tell me how sick this car is once you mod it??

His car has 3" from the turbo K&N and 16" rims & nice dunlops and almost keeps up with my bimmer.

I know there is almost no aftermarket mods for this car but I am very impressed by its performance with just a big pipe and K&N.

Money is my big issue but I was just hoping for some motivation to keep the car

Sell the Bimmer and I guarantee your money problems will be solved.

Why would you want your subaru to be strickly a summer car?? More pointedly, why would you want your BMW to be strickly WINTER car? There is no AWD.

ooohhhh, 89-91 325i.... gimme one like that and the subaru would be history...

the bmw is a major expense and a pain in the ass though. Have you had to replace the driveshaft yet? The center bearing is prone to fail, and its a 200$ miserable job. The subie is a thousand times better in marginal traction (i have first hand experience with what can happen to a bmw in a storm...r.i.p.) as far as performance, they are a toss up, the bmw is better, the subie has more potential. Subaru repair costs (time and expense) don't touch a bmw. The BMW has the cachet a subaru completely lacks.

only insure the bimmer in the summer, and only insure the subie in the winter, and be nice to them both. Maintain the poo out of the subie (keep it covered with its various goos) and it will last forever.

I was actually going to buy a 3 series like that, 318 or 325 cant remember i don't follow bmw that well but it was a 3 series, it was conv too, but went for about 1 g more than i had.

Actuakky based in his comments and the rims I am going to take a guess that it is the rare 235ix AWD BMW. There is a guy near my work with one who has dropped a newer 'M3" engine into his. That BMW is a very potent startgin point to wrok with. But these days you can't sell one for much more than a turbo Legacy. Personally if I already had a 325ix that looked that clean and nice I would mod the crap out of it and likely replace the engine and totally dial the suspension and brakes...

Matt, do you have any more information about the M3'd 325ix? My BMW mechanic buddy really wants to hear more about it. I hear there were major problems with the front axles getting in the way of the engine.

My friend has been researching the idea of dropping an e36 m3 engine into his gf's 325ix, but has fount that since one of the rive axles actually goes THROUGH the oil pan, that making any aftermarket axles that work with the awd system would be tricky . . .

Reason being that the stock axles really can't handle too much torque before failing.

As for the seemingly lack of mods available for the turbo legacy? I dunno where you've been looking but with the wrx out there, there are a CRAPLOAD of mods available for the car!!

The bimmer is a very good winter car but it is not awd. It does have LSD however or posi rear if you call it that.

I have a rebuilt head and block that is giving me over 200hp + almost every other mod you can get for this car.

So really all thats left to break on the bimmer is my diff and tranny.

You think I should take the turbo off the subaru and put it in the bimmer>>??

The e30 wheather it be an IX-IS or just an I they are made to handle 300hp before you should brake anything

Then I guess you know how much my friend was planning on putting down in that awd platform!!

Very pretty Bimmer! My VW friends happen to have a few BMWs as well, including a drop-dead gorgeous E30 M3

My other friend had a `91 318is, and while it was definitely a fun car to drive, it wasn't very well taken care of. He got reamed at a mere $4500 for the car, and within one week, the A/C crapped out, another $1500, and then he started noticing all the oil leaks. While I tried to get him to do some stuff himself, he simply was too lazy and had a mechanic fix stuff. I will say this: having a Subaru that leaks a whole bunch of oil can get pricey, but having a BMW that leaks a whole bunch of oil is highway robbery! I do believe another $1000 was spent fixing oil leaks in that car...

I still think he should have kept it though and just fixed as much as he could. It wasn't a rocket, but it handled excellently, and it had personality to it.

So I do like BMW's, but they're just too rich for my blood.

But I can't be any assistance on the M engine swap thing. The guy doesn't live around me anymore and I never asked him details about the conversion. But I did look under the hood and see that it was for real and not just a rice badge...
