Fog Lights

Please don't laugh! I'll be brief. I have fog-lights. How do I turn them on?

There's a few places the button could be. To the left of the steering wheel on the lower dash. To the right of the steering wheel on the lower dash, or above the parking brake on the center console just below the armrest. The most likely place is to the left of the steering wheel though.

Assuming you've got a US-spec car, the fog lights are aftermarket, so the person who put them in could have put the switches anywhere.
Dumb question, though -- you're not confusing your turn signals with fog lights, are you?

They are below the driving lights. My Sport Sedan is completely stock at the moment. I thought that the lights came with the car. I just have not been able to figure out how to turn them on for some reason.

Driving lights? Our cars didn't come stock with driving lights or fog lights.

Excuse me headlights. Ok well then if they weren't there in the first place then I guess I have to wonder to my self why are they there if there isn't any switch to turn them on? Or at least not one that I have been able to locate. So none of the legacies came with foggies?

Could someone have wired them in to always and only come on with the high beams? You could turn them on and see if they activate.

SooBahRoo - Your 1991 Legacy's turn signals are mounted underneath the headlights. I think you may be confusing the turn signals with fog lights. Try turning on your hazards and looking at the front of the car.
No US Legacies came with fogs from the factory. A few very lucky 1990 Legacies had them as a dealer-installed option.

When I first got my 91 SS I thought my Turn signals were fogs...
Has anyone done a mod to make the corner park lights the signals, and put aftermarket fogs where the signal lights are?
If so, what and how did you do it?

I did. Well, the owner before me did.
From what I can see he just mounted som led's in the cornerlamp housing and wired them into the stock harness for the turn signals.
However, my turn signals blink twice as fast as normal. I think it has something to do with the difference in resistance between the leds and the OEM turn signal bulbs.

BoostJunkie is the only one currently that has anything like that. He didn't do it though, the person who owned it before him did. A few of us have thrown te idea around, but so far none of us have acted on our ideas.

I did something similar in my old 91 Legacy. I mounted another bulb in the corner lamp housing and put a 168 bulb in there to act as the parking light. Then I replaced the stock bulb with a brighter amber bulb and wired it in parallel with the front turn signals. I felt a lot better changing lanes and stuff afterwards. But I was just looking to improve upon rather than replace the front signals. My fogs were mounted slightly inboard of the turn signals.
I don't think it'd be a great idea to rely on the corner lamp alone, though; it wasn't really designed as a turn signal so it doesn't have the same optics. Also, it's better to use bulbs than LEDs; it's hard to find LEDs that are appropriate for automotive signaling.

I thought I noticed something different about your front end boostjunkie...
Oh well, If I'm ever so ambitious I'll try and figure something out.
Maybe I can find some different harnesses on my 92 that will swap over easily enough.
I don't know enough about the electronics of the car since I haven't really had my face under the hood for longer than 20 minutes without freezing since I've owned it.

Just call me quick-draw!! lol!
Unfortunately, I must have some sorta wiring problem with my foglights right now. One of the bulbs for the yellow fogs was burnt out so I replaced it. They all worked fine for a couple days but then the same bulb burnt out. Eventually the driving lights wouldn't turn on, except for some random (and I mean oonce every month random) times. The one yellow fog still lights up, tho.
Until I figure out the problem (might be another set of bulbs burnt out) I don't have any fogs either!!
I still need to get rid of those damn orange cornerlamps!! Those are ugly as sin!!

Are those oranges stock for the MY91's for USDM?
Mine aren't quite so hellishly orange as those.

Jeez, man, your car is really plagued with electrical problems. Almost makes me wonder if it was ever flooded or anything.
I think you should save up to convert your front end to 92-94 parts. Then you'd get nice-looking corners that are proper turn signals, the little sidemarkers in the fender, and much better headlights. Your fog/driving light combos could go in the bumper with brand new wiring. They'd actually mount decently to a non-turbo bumper I think. If you went with a non-turbo bumper and grille, the only hard part would be finding a turbo hood. You might even get away with transplanting your stock hood scoop to a 92-94 non-turbo hood though.

Yeah, I know. I feel like I'm driving a Jaguar! LOL!
Probably the reason why Adam swapped cars with me. No matter, tho. As we both handed over a couple of lemons
As for the front end swap, I honestly like the 91 front end better than the 92-94s. The cornerlamps (which are stock on 91 USDM turbo legacies) can be exchanged with a set of 90-91 Lsi cornerlamps. My headlights, surprisingly, shine better than my 2.5GT. Adam had new ones installed shortly before he handed the car over to me (probably because of a wiring problem! LOL!)

Right, but 92-94 corner lamps are designed to be turn signals...

What year 2.5GT? If it was a 97, then something must have been wrong with your GT's headlights. If it was a 98, then it had crappy headlights anyway; 92-97 Subarus had much better headlamps than any other years in the US.

89-90 JDM corner lights, get those and you'll be in business.

I trusted my friend to do what I should have done. I must be confusing my turn signals for fog lights. The only reason that I thought they weren't working is because I had my friend walk in front of my car and tell me which lights came on when and so forth. I turned on the turn signals, hi-beams, etc. He said that not once did those lights come on. So that means tonight I have so fidgeting around to do with my car. Ahh and in sub-zero temperatures too. Ausgezeichnet!

It was in fact a 97. Who knows what the problem was? Or maybe I just have piss poor night vision? Gotta eat my carrots, I guess.
As for the 89-90 JDM corner lights . . . I'll take some headlights from those cars too!!

Even with a vitamin A deficiency, you should see that 97 lights illuminate much better than 91 lights. My guess is something was wrong with your 97's lights. If you upgraded to 92-94 lights you'd see an improvement over your stock lights.

But they're aimed at the wrong side of the road!

Dammit, vrg3!! Why do you always have to rain on my parade!!
Probably something wrong with my GT lights, but that's not my problem anymore. And true that the 92-94 lights are an improvement over my stockers, but hey, ignorance is bliss, right? If I don't see it, then it's not true

I'm just very adamant about automotive lighting. 'Murricans don't give it the respect it deserves!
