I need to get my edjumacation on, so I'm perusing schools right now. Here's the site if you haven't visited yet: http://www.wyotech.com/default.asp Has anyone heard anything good about wyotech? They sent me soething about a week back that i turned in, and someone called about it today. So does anyone know anybody that has graduated from here and what did they do afterwards, like where do they work? What about salary? The only problem I have with wyotech is they only have two campuses, one in wyoming, and one in penn. I don't want to have to move

What about other schools? What are some that you've heard about that mainly deal with auto tech? I'd rather stay away from csu and uc schools.

we had the guy from wyotech come talk to my auto class at high school a few years ago. Sounds intense, but i was all over it for a while. changed my mind though

it's a really hardcore school. You go to school 8-5, 5 days a week, during summer, and it's in colorado. Though there's snow, it still seems like a not fun place to live. The impression that I got from the representative was that it was a primarily "hot rod" crew, most of the students drove older cars. Just didnt seem like a place that I, personally would be happy

I'll chime in here being from Wyoming. The Wyotech campus is located just outside of Laramie, WY. It's a pretty decent school from what I have heard. The head of Autonation's service recommends it to people and often gives talks and speeches and recruits from there. For those of you who don't know who Autonation is they are based out of Florida and are the nations largest dealer group. My friend Ben went there and was offered an Audi scholarship right out of school and moved to Chicago and was trained, all expenses paid, by Audi to work on Audis and is now living in Atlanta, GA. I haven't talked to him in a while but I imagine he's doing pretty well.
Laramie is a cold city. I think it's located at like 8000 ft above sea level. It's only 45 minutes from Ft. Collins, CO though so your relatively close to a larger city with a relatively good scene. I am planning on going to graduate school there for a few reasons. First my co-driver wants to go to Wyotech so I already have a potential roommate. Secondly housing is dirt cheap. My friend owns a pretty nice house and rents out either level for about $350 a month, and that is 2 bed/ 1 bath on both and only three blocks from campus. There is also the Snowy Range mountains nearby for hiking, skiing, etc, and Laramie Peak for skiing, snowboarding, and other mountain activities. Lastly there is no better place to train to drive a rally car than Wyoming. Sparsely populated state with 1000s of miles of dirt roads with no sheriffs anywhere and little to no traffic. Last time I had a 70 mile excursion and didn't see a single car the whole time, plus had a water crossing, a few jumps, and a fun canyon. Anyhow, if anyone decides to look any further into it I can try to get my friend Ben's number or email so you can ask him what he thought about it and what his feelings are on the issue.

Colorado sucks, Wyoming isnt any better. Fort Collins is a bunch of Agro/Vetranarian college loosers or hicks in pickup trucks with CB radios drinking Mountain Dew and Everclear. The percentage of uninsured unregistered unlicensed mexican drivers is probably more than LA. The place is boring as hell. The highway is only two lanes and people dont know to move right. Cultural diversity is very low.
The only good thing about Colorado is that its nice to visit.

The only reason to goto Wyoming is cheap gas and groceries. Its a desolate place. Even the Capitol is a joke, you'd be shocked at how small it is.

I actually got a ticket in Wyoming. By a Blazer! And probably one of two cops in the state. Their capital is like some of the hillbillie towns we have out in western MA.

I'm going to wyoming for a NOLS course for 3.5 months come feb 12. Gonna be in Lander some, but mostly im gonna be freezing my ass of in the "hills".

Having lived in Colorado (Boulder) for five years, I can safely say that the only place I'd live in Colorado is Boulder. I'm not trying to piss off any Colorado guys, but the drivers in Colorado are worse than the Californians No one understands the term "passing lane" and with the major highways that I travelled on being four lane (2 in each direction) it becomes a real PITA. I loved Boulder and I loved being so close to the mountains. The other thing I loved was driving in the snow. That's gotta be the best thing about living somewhere that snows. The downside is that you have to live in a freezing ass place. No thanks.

What Colorado DOES have going for it is the RallyX scene. It was just getting started when I moved back to Cali, and as I'm still on their mailing list, I see that it's getting better and better every year.

Nobody mentioned the fireworks in Wyoming. Totally kick ass!!!

Oh I should mention, if the people in Colorado find out you are from Texas or California they all automatically hate you and blame you for every problem they have.

I have a love/hate relationship with Colorado. Being from Wyoming, where we hate everybody that borders us, we really hated the f-ing greenies. On the flipside there aren't many states where you can be walking around outside in the middle of January with no coat on and then hop on the interstate and your in the mountains with countless ski resorts and even more fun roads that are unpaved.
Wyoming is the worst state in the entire US. I say that because it's by far my favorite and anyone else liking it would only encourage more people to go there.

I have quite a few friends living in Gunnison (Crested Butte) and a few that live in Boulder and they all love it. Boulder is supposed to be a lot like Eugene Or. (where I mainly grew up). So I'm sure I would like it there. I love to ski.

The thing I really like about Wyoming and Montana (lived in Whitefish for a season) besides the mountains is that you can do about a 115 MPH before the cops will pull you over. The year I spent in Montana was back when they didn't have daytime speed limits Now that was a fun year. I went through Montana and Wyoming back in '01 after 911 ( I was in southern Oregon for my sisters wedding and my flights were cancelled and I had to rent a car and drive back) and I did about 90-110 all the way across both states, all the while getting passed fairly frequently . In Mont. I was in a pack of about 6 cars doing around 100 mph when we passed a state cop and he didn't even give us a second look.

I got a ticket for 90 by some assbag cop near Laramie on a clear road in the morning. 75 mph zone.

Much as a driver I hate to say it, but no speed limits (aka safe and reasonable or whatever) done US style sucks. What it really means is the speed limit is whatever the cop wants for any given person at any given time. Everyone is driving 100+ and you get pulled over at eighty for having long hair or a beater car or whatever.
I think I would find it stressful, I'll stick to building a stealth car...
