OK, so i started driving like 2 weeks ago, in my family's 92 legacy LS
so...its an auto FWD, looked up the specs to be 122hp and 162 torque (right? its non turbo)
and ive seen this "manual" thing under the button to shift gears.
How do i work that thing? my dad says its a clutchless manual, but he's never tried it either, so how's this work?
and do all new subaru's (besides manual only ones, STi) come with manumatics?

I'll jump in before the search Nazi does

Look up Ciper's explanation of how to shift it (Search)

just so you know it's not a manual button like, they have put in new auto cars, where you can select what gear you want.

i've found that when driving with it in manual(in a selected gear) shifting takes more time, but initial power feels stonger. It more or less lets you decide how far you let your transmission go. If it's in 2nd, the car will not shift out of 2nd gear, i only use it to keep a 50/50 power split in snow, or if i'm doing "spirited" driving, in which i want awd on at all times, and i'm not going very fast

From what I've read in 3 it starts in 2nd gear and will shift to 3rd, in 2 it starts in 2nd gear and will only upshift if it gets to redline, and in 1 it starts in first and will only upshift if it gets to redline, dunno how much of that is valid though. There was a thread taht someone started taht said it uses a map lower than the gear it's in for 2 and 3, dunno where it is though.

My '84's auto had no manual button, but you could put it manually in 1, 2, or D. 1 would hold to redline in 1 and not shift up; 2 would hold to redline in 2, but would downshift to 1st when necessary and would not shift to 3rd; D would do what D normally does but the car would go redline in top (5500 ~ 110mph). I thought this was normal for autos.
