Anyone else have problems with cracked cylinder heads and overheating? I am going to be replacing my 91 motor because of this problem and have recently been hearing alot of stories about subaru's and cracked heads, specifically early model Legacy's.
Is this a problem with the 2.2L in general or what?

Are you sure it's not the headgaskets? I think ciper said something about the early model legacies having a problem wih cracking heads. But shouldn't your hg's go before the head?

I dont remember saying they crack, I know the radiator end caps crack. Most often what happens:
Coolant gets really low (cracked radiator or otherwise)
Temperature gauge shows stable for along time, even with half coolant
Person drives up a hill
Car overheats. they dont notice because it keeps driving fine.
Headgasket is damaged
It takes a good amount of damage before the car will overheat. My sedan currently has a pretty bad headgasket leak. I drive it 95+ MPH on the highway every day.
