Hey everyone,

Does anyone know if the STi keys (seen below) will work in our cars?

I only have one key, and it's crappy, so I need a replacement key. Will the STi keys work?

I was thinking about buying from www.allsubaru.com

What do you think?

I have one. It works in the ignition and trunk, but is too wide to fit in the door or glove box.

Where'd you get yours from?

I've seen a bunch of different "styles". Some are plastic, and others are metal with a Ti "blade".

Check your PM's too. I sent you one a few days ago.

Reportedly people have successfully just filed them down to make them fit early doors. The only difference between early and later Subaru keys apparently is just the thickness.

Don't buy it from AllSubaru.com -- buy it from me! http://bbs.legacycentral.org/viewtopic.php?t=14489 :) The one I have looks just like the one pictured.

I have the one pictured. The blue part is plastic, the silver part is metal.

Previous owner had it made.

It is, indeed, a thick key. . . and somewhat heavy. I LOVE the feel of it, though. . . and I highly recommend them.

. . .. if you don't mind having rice as a key. ;)

The actual thickness is to thick to work in the door? But it's fine to work in the ignition?

Damn, so it looks like I'll have to keep my crappy looking key anyway :(

I should go to Subaru and ask to see one of the STi keys so I could compare to my 94 key.

Art - It's blue, so it'll make my car start faster.

Take a regular remade key, polish it so that its all brass, and drill some holes in the end piece. I've had someone ask me where I got my key.

Fits perfectly in every lock in the whole car, from ignition to trunk to glovebox...

I got the key idea a couple yrs BR (before rice) from an old Blower Bentley. The reason I made it brass was that most of the silver had worn off anyway and I was bored at work so I buffed it out.

No offense taken. Its just that I hate rice for ruining good fun. If I had my '84 wagon today everyone would think the racing stripes and numbers were rice, but back then there was no rice and most people got the joke (it was the slowest car I'd been in, so I figured I'd put racing stuff on it). Today idiots would try to race me in it.

Exactly what my logic is.

If those idiots want to try to race the "slow, old Subaru" I'll let them have their fun. Then let er' spool and drop them like a brick.

Just received the key in the mail. It's pretty cool, a lot heavier than I thought it would be.

I might get an STi key in the future and use this one as the backup, but it's cool.
