Check out this spark plug

This plug is out of my newly aquired Legacy. It looks like its in very rough shape. Where is all that oil from? I pulled it from the number 1 cylinder so its not oil that dripped down the filler tube. Could it be from a bad valve cover gasket? Or something more serious? What would cause scorching on the porcelin like that?
I've got a new set of iridiums that were in my WRX for 200 miles. Is it ok to replace it with these? I looked up how to decode a plug but there wasn't any info on the one I pulled out (BKR6E) All I know is that it physicly fits and its the right heat range.

Its leaking exhaust out of the cylinder THROUGH the spark plug!

How the hell does it go through the spark plug? Defective plugs? Under torqued?

Either because the crush washer is bad (too tight, removed and reinserted) or there is a crack inside.
Anyways, get some NGK V-Powers for 5-10$ and move on! Dont use any fancy plugs.

It will be 30K miles before I have to replace the WRX plugs again. And thats another $5-10 that I would have to spend. I'm just going to throw these in.
I'm curious about how the other plugs look. Its too cold and dark to try and pull out the other three now.

You should realize that after they've been installed once, crush washers exhibit a greatly reduced ability to seal. Every time you reuse a spark plug after removing it from an engine you increase the chance that it will leak.

Birdwalk? Do you mean me? I've got a Scirocco. Its an 8V. Its painted Audi S4 Nogaro Blue, has Sparco Evo seats and other complementing Sparco items, a rebuilt head (3 angle valves, port & polish, big cams, TT adjustable cam gear), 4-2-1 header and TT exhuast, and an O2A transmission.
Its an autocross car. I share it with my brother and we run in Street Mod. We'll be running Kumhos and 13x9 Diamond Racing wheels this season. We've got a cage going in and we're still undecided on suspension. Any suggestions?

are you sure about the exhaust leaking through the plug? I'd assume that was burnt oil which is making that scorching mark, and the oil got in through those usual valve cover leaks
just an idea

Oil doesnt travel upwards. How would it leak into the spark plug holes? Also if it was oil the boots would be damaged.

There shouldn't be any oil in there unless its spilled - the valve covers are below the plug holes and I can't see a HG causing that either. Possibly a cracked head could, but it seems an umlikely place to crack and an unlikely way for oil to get in anyway unless it was slipping past the valve seals and the crack was between the intake and plug hole...But then it still shouldn't get past the washer and that would be a lot of oil. It must have been spilled in there somehow or near it and the spill travelled.
