OK I wound up with an ebay Turbo Legacy Trans, but no Torque Converter. Trying to buy one, but there is difficulty in identifying the Turbo Legacy TC against other TCs with which it may be confused
Factory training course says Turbo Legacy TC is "LARGER" than NA Legacy TC, but doesn't say how or where. Could be diameter, could be thickness, could maybe even be something inside
91-94 Turbo Legacy TC p/n is 31100AA521
92-97 SVX TC p/n is 31100AA544
90-94 NA Legacy and 93-95 Impreza TC p/n is 31100AA552
Can anybody help with how to ID Turbo Legacy TC please
Thank you very much

Send a PM to "ciper". He's the auto trans guru. From one of his past posts, I seem to remember him saying you can use pretty much any TC you want from any subaru. IIRC, he's used 1.8 2.2 and 2.5L 4EAT TCs interchangeably.

Subject: Legacy Turbo Trans TC Trivia
OK just got blown out of the water a couple of days ago
If you have posilutely absitively NO interest in auto trannys you should skip to the next section
Had telecon with Rick at Colorado Component Rebuilders (CCR) in my search for Turbo Torque Converter
Have highest respect for CCR products and services
http://www.ccrengines.com/
Torque converter used in 91 - 94 Turbo Legacy is different, and has different part number than torque converter used in non turbo Legacy
Factory training manual says Turbo Legacy TC is "larger", but does not say in what way
Info from TWO (2) reliable sources said string around circumference would reveal difference in sizes
Turns out THEY ARE THE SAME EXTERNALLY...AAAaaannnd there's no external markings !!!
All the "larger" is inside...the turbo TC has beefier internals
EXCEPT... the Flex Plate has a slightly larger (by approx. 1/4 inch) bolt pattern
So you either need one of each, to compare, or need to know the exact bolt hole spacing
Was this info useful to anyone ???

Yes. ANY information is helpful, Larry. Thank you for making the effort. Still, torque converters are still one of those things that are just a mystery.
