Forged Rods?

I've been talking to a lot of people, and this seems to be the question of the hour.

I hear all kinds of conflicting points about our rods. Some say they are just cast. Some say they are forged.

Which is it?

At what point do the internals HAVE to be upgraded (power wise)?

Also, what other parts of the engine should be replaced with stronger parts to hold power?

ahh, good call man. Thanks!

By "no different than other rods" he means aftermarket forged rods, eh?

I thought the EJ22T was Foam cast, not sand-cast?

I'd be likely to believe someone who's actually worked on the engine and broke it down numerous nasioc-neigh-sayers who probably haven't even seen the block in person, honestly.

Here's another link for you. It's my website, and has information taken from a site of a person who broke down an ej22t for use in his aircraft. Have a look. Not sure which page it's on but it's in there:

Looking at the engine apart in my kitchen, I can assure you they are forged. You all shouldn't doubt Subaru such to question this to begin with - these aren't Korean or American cars or some of the overrated Euros.

My only question, have you heard of any EJ2X engine damaging a rod?

Only a couple of ej25s with turbo kits.

Well, the highest HP Legacy I've been in is Boostjunkie's. Highest HP Subaru I've been in is a modded STi. Never seen any blow a rod. I was just curious, that's all.

Thank's for the link DLC, I thought I read that it was Foam cast.

I was just curious how much power the EJ22T can handle. I've never heard of anyone blowing a rod, but I've never seen a high power EJ22T beyond Boostjunkie's. Hence the curiousity.

Some where in the range of "enough"

I don't know if he has the highest powered one, but it's the highest powered one I've seen with my own eyes (and the buttdyno agreed).

I know of two EJ22T's that have blown rods. But they were both very high mileage engines. But as has been confirmed, our rods are forged. These engines are from an era when group A homogaltion rules led to a lot of race quality parts ending up in production vehicles. To my understanding the old EJ18's and ALL early EJ20 have forged rods as well. If I can ever get the frickin heads off my EJ22, I will post pics of all the various parts including the rods. And just to play the devil's advocate for any who doubt these rods, do you think Axis would be using stock EJ22 blocks with only a change in heads as the racing engine they are selling/advertising on their site if the rods (and crank) were not top quality parts?

I'd like to know that, too. However, I'm gonna make sure that if I'm taking it to a dyno, that it's to get it tuned. To get it tuned I need some larger injectors. And that there, is my problem.
