Nice. I like the center mount gauge cluster too.
The WRX steering wheel looks very nice in our cars too IMO.

I especially like the autodimming/compass rear view mirror. How hard was that to hook up?

Cake. Takes about an hour. Nothing special really, just finding a place to mount the sensor that gives you the most accurate temperature w/o getting heatsoaked.

I've been looking at three gauge clusters but haven't found a good place to install them. I like your console idea.

Is the stereo/gauge plate a production or homemade piece? How does it attach to the console?
Thanks for any advice!

Damn, that's a slick setup. I am thinking about doing my gauges in a similar fashion. How'd you do the A/F meter?
Also, did you retain the airbag with the WRX steering wheel?
I would love to have that wheel, but it's so damn expensive!

The wheel and gauges are hot. The rear view is okay and the horns suck and are ugly.

I always wondered when I would get my first 'blunt comment' from ciper..
Well, yea, the horns definately aren't pretty.. I put them where I could. But, then again, they aren't designed to be pretty.. when I honk, people move -- quickly.
As for the rear view.. well, I've never been satisfied with import mirrors (in fact, this is the first import I've ever owned), so I had to bring some novelties over from the domestic market to help ease my transition.
Oh, and BAC.. yes, I've retained the airbag. It works 100%, as does the cruise control, tilt and horn.

I hope you never really have to find out it works 100%

I just reread your first post "2002 WRX MoMo Wheel" and was shocked.
Every once in a while I drive a 2003 WRX with Momo wheel and didnt recognize it in your image! It looks FAR better in that picture than on the WRX.

How did you wire the airbag in? I thought the 02 WRX had these depowered progressive-deployment jobbers that needed different controls.

I would have used the smooth side of the plastic, for the gauge panel,
and painted it with a flat black, or covered it with vinyl/leather.
The mirriors cool, I prefer a convex type, but one thing I always have loved about V-Dubs, is the thermometer (I could never admit to liking a GM product). Why the hell didnt Subaru put these in? And I need no compass, or need for directions, for I am a real man.
The wheel is cool, there pretty comfy, I do however question if you want the airbag hooked up, and I too hope you never need to find out.

We all want to know how he wired the airbag in.

Oh, jeez.. someone should've sent me a PM.

I'd love nothing more than to give a wonderful detailed explanation, but I can't. The wheel was installed by a friend who, like vrg3 if I'm not mistaken, is an E.E. major. As far as I know, he used something from the stereo-installer world to adapt it.
Of course, we could be completely wrong and the thing won't deploy at all.. as I don't really have a spare airbag to "test" with.

Nah, I'm not an EE major. I majored in CS as an undergrad and am working on my masters thesis in Computer Graphics.
I'm suspicious about the concept of adapting the airbags with something from the car stereo world... Then again, I know nothing about the difference between the controls for depowered airbags.
Are you confident that it won't ever go off when it shouldn't?
Can you ask your friend for more details?
