brake caliper servicing

what type of grease do you need to use to service the caliper piston, boots etc. in the workshop manual it just says rubber grease??
anyone...

You should make sure you use a grease designed for brake calipers; they get hotter than most other parts of the car. Just go to the auto parts store and look for a grease specified for brakes.

similar to the red stuff you use on the cv joints then??

No. You can also get green brake stuff.

you can alos get clear stuff that looks like silicone. The best is OEM BMW bremklatplaste (I think thats how its spelled) comes in a small silver condom package size.
