I am going to be changing my oil pan gasket soon and subaruparts.com told me that the gasket maker i needed was:

Part #: 004403007
Super Three Bond 121

Is there an alternative to this that I could find at AutoZone or the like?
Or is the "super three bond 121" crap made specifically for the aluminum or something?

When I do the job, I want to do it right, so i'm looking for something that will work just as good as the "super three bond 121" but at a cheaper price than $20 a tube.

I would just use the stuff at the auto parts stores, but i'm not sure how well they work on aluminum......

Try The Right Stuff. I've been using it with great success. The caulking tube is the easiest. Make sure the two mating surfaces are oil free. Also, do everything you want to do before the oil pan gets sealed back on. This stuff is a real pain to separate once it's cured.

I wish I would have found this stuff last year, before I bought "good" gaskets that ended up leaking.

cool thanks

Any tips from people who have replaced the oil pan gasket?

I have pretty much figured out that I will have to raise the engine off the crossmember to get to the back bolts.

Get STI engine mounts when you do it.
