I don't know what it is, but when i wind up my car, it starts making a wistling, high pitch screaming noise. it happens between 2500 and 4500 rpm in every gear except first. i thought it was belts, but it sounds like its coming from the back. exhaust leak? belts anyway? gremlins having a good time?

i could use some help. thanks...jim

That's the exhaust, not the intake...

I never thought of wheel bearings, but I guess it could be, I don't know, it doesn't sound that way. It does sound like an exhaust leak, where would it be? looks like driveway time this weekend. thanks for the replies. Jim

oop, sorry, I was still having fun with bac5.2

I didn't mean it was the whee; bearings.
Lemme ask you though, does it only whistle when you touch the accellerator? or does it happen even when you're not pressing it?
it only happens when i am mashing on the gas pedal..

if i am accelerating kinda fast, its a low whistle, but when the pedal is to the floor its loud. if i'm driving just regular there is no noise. kinda weird huh?

maybe the differential? drivetrain components could whistle under hard acceleration because of the added stress, while coasting or gentle accelerating , there isnt as much pressure on them so there may not be any whistling.
I guess it could be..

the differential? I want to say the noise is almost too dynamic, if that makes sense. I would think if it were the diff the noise would be localized, but it strange. this weekend i'm going to check the exhaust and all of my belt. i know i had a frozen tension pulley once, maybe it's that again. we'll see

The A/C could be freezing up.

hey jimlab, I've got the same problem. I've got no clue what it is. I want to think it could be intake related, but who knows.
