Legacy No. 5 arrived at in our driveway this afternoon. Its a 90 Legacy L AWD sedan with 258,200 miles. Its red with a gray interior. The body is cherry with the exception of a dent in the hood from hitting a dear and the driver's side front fender where someone backed into it. Right now it runs hot possibly due to the leaking radiator or the waterpump.

My cousin bought it new in Jan. of 1990 and drove it until she bought her Forrester in 98 or so. She sold it to her sister who gave it to her husband when she remarried. He drove it up until last week when it started running hot.

This one needs some work, but its definately worth it! :D

ran into a dear, eh? And is that spouse ok?

Check the water and hoses first of course. If it runs hot all the time, its the pump. If it overheats on the fwy, its the radiator. Replace the thermostat first either way because i told you to.

CONGRATS ON THE NEW SUBARU! ITS STILL GOT ANOTHER 100K IN IT YET

Another possibility for freeway overheating (usually at higher speeds than the limit) is the radiator hoses being too old and soft - they partially close up at high speed and restrict the flow of coolant. Temp should come right back down immediately once the car is slowed, though.

I forgot to add that this is one of the the early Legacies built in March of 89. The engine and trans were replaced by the my cousin about 5 yrs ago. Pics are on the way.

When did they start building these cars? I thought mine was pretty early with being born in November (I think late November...seems more Sagitarrius than Scorpio. Like my ex but with better self-esteem).

Steve.

pretty early

The build date on the sticker in the door jamb says 3/89. I was surprised also.

But the Legacy was available as an 89 model year in other country. From what I know the production may have started in early 88.

The 1990 MY build dates probably started in 89. I don't think we got any 1990 MY's that were built in 88.

I think addicted is a good word. Right now, we're running out of driveway space to park. Looks like there could be a problem!

That's how some of my friend's are with RX-7's. One of them has 40+ rotary powered vehicles on his property and 10+ more in a warehouse.
