Looks like I'm gonna be swapping the engine from my 91 into another Subaru, so I pretty much have it narrowed down to either a AWD Impreza coupe/sedan, or a BD Legacy sedan. I'm hopin to find either with a ej22 and 5mt.
Is the ej22 in the imprezas and BDs the same as BC's? Meaning I'm hoping not to have to do major wiring work. Anyone think of any pros/cons to either the impreza/legacy?

And much more nimble. I'd say find an old Impreza although some people on this board may say it should definitely stay in a Legacy

I vote for another BC/BF. Grab one with a blown headgasket for pennies.

Chepaest easiest bets are BC/BF or early 1.8 Impreza. Legacy has a nicer interior, though. BD is OBD II, so you may have emissions issues.

If you go with the Impreza, I suggest looking for a '95 or older. Why? Because like our Legacies they are OBD-I and much much easier to wire. I have talked to a number of guys who have done old EJ20's into newer GC's and the you need to rewire the whole damned car because it is so different. IF you get an older Impreza, it will be like doing a BC/BF turbo conversion.
That is unless you are going stand alone like a Link or Tec, and then it doesn't matter what year car you get.
Personally, I am putting my EJ22T into a BG Legacy wagon. I have a wagon thing. But since I am using an STI v6 wiring harness it is going to be easier than doing an older one. But it will still be a royal pain in the arse. It just won't require rewiring the whole car. Just another option to consider if you go the newer Legacy or Impreza route.
But if you go route number one, I know of a guy around here *coughingvikash* who can even make up a patch harness for the handful of wires the OBD-I conversion requires...

I don't think there is anything he can't do!

Even if it's not a 2.2?

Yep,
It might not be as simple as a 2.2l, but the OBD-I cars are wired much more simply to start with and they have a lot of similarities. Once you cross generations is when things get sticky as very few wires will use the same spot on the pinouts for the ECU...

1.8s are cheap. My sister had two of them both for under $2k with low miles.
