"Subaru is planning on moving up a notch for the 2006 model year with the introduction of its seven-passenger upscale wagon. Updated, but based on the WX-01 Concept from the Tokyo Motor Show, this vehicle will be the first in the lineup to carry Subaru's new signature styling grille, as first seen on the B9SC Roadster Concept.
Developed under the codenames SG/X and 00X, the premium wagon has already hit the consumer clinics in southern California and has received positive feedback. Several Subaru owners commented that the new wagon had the look and feel of a Lexus, but others remarked on the European influences.
Subaru insides have commented about the vehicle's very versatile and highly flexible interior, and it's believed that the second and third rows of seats will fold flat to accommodate cargo, as well as flexible seating configurations.
The SG/X will be built in Lafayette, Ind., and should start running off the assembly line in just a year from now. Sources tell us the SG/X will measure in at about 195 inches overall, with a 108-inch wheelbase. Power is expected to come from Subaru's 3.0-liter H6 boxer engine, and, of course, it will be all-wheel drive.
The new SG/X will likely start in the low-to-mid $30,000 range with an estimated production of up to 40,000 units annually.
And although there is nothing confirmed, there are STRONG rumors that General Motors may want a piece of the action. Quite possibly this might spawn a new luxury wagon for the automaker, and it just may carry the Buick nameplate - and possibly Saab as well."

Why is it nobody can seem to make a car atractive anymore? Either it looks the same as everything else or is hideous. Oh, I mean, avant garde, Mr. Bangle, that's right you are so amazing

. Not to just pick on BMW - there's the Aztec, Element, Scion, most Koreans, etc. I'd have an easier time listing the attractive and interesting cars. Doesn't Subaru see a huge opening in the premium segment? The opening for something attractive and unique? Guess they'll leave that to someone else to exploit. Good job guys. I like vaginas, but not on the fronts of my cars (with the exception of Alfa Romeo - takes an Italian to get it right and it dates back to when designers had a good visual sense). Edsel, Kaiser-Darrin, Subaru...
If I told you guys about how hard you have to work to be an automotive designer, you'd never believe me for lack of visual evidence.
Steve
Subaru Trailblazer? No, thank god!

Ha ha ha, so I am the only one who likes it... Well, after seeing the roadster in person, I changed my mind about this front end. I think it looks god awful in pictures, but I thikn it will look good in person. And you should be very happy. GM told SAAB to release an SUV, and they ended up with a rebadged Trailblazer. GM told Subaru to do the same, and Subaru told them where to go. Anything would be better than that!

When you have GM owning a good bit of stock... you are going to suck a little bit after all!

How dare this new Alfa designer barge in and throw away every last bit of Subaru styling we've all come to love for the past 20 years in pursuit of something more "dynamic"! Am I the only 19-year-old in this country who actually cares about
tradition? Say whatever you want about the designer trying to capture Subaru's lineage in the avation-esque grill. It's still NOTHING like any Subaru car that's ever been made! I don't really like the B11S, I don't like the B9 Scrambler, and I REALLY don't like this!
Better get your 05 Legacies in a hurry! It looks like they might be the end of the 2nd Generation of Subaru!

Aviation tradition my ass. I have a model of a Nakajima Ki-84 fighter and it looks nothing like that.
NuwanD - I knew the designer was ex-alfa. I just forget his name (Andrea Zapita or something). At least his past FIAT stuff was good (156, 147, 166) Chris Bangle's ex-FIAT stuff was only OK (turbo and Barchetta).

I was thinking atleast gm isnt making subaru sell a saburban, tahoe, blazer with a subaru grill like what they are doing with saab. until I saw this.

oops. I clicked I like it, that was a mistake.

Sorry, I should have been more clear.
Subaru isn't making a rebadged GM product. They were told to, but they told GM that they only owned 20% so to back off. As I understand it, this is all Subaru.

yeah gm doesn't have total control of subaru which is good like they do with saab.
have you seen that saab fullsize suv. the dealers are not happy about gm makeing them sell such a vehicle. saab people are very saab loyal. they are not suv people for the most part.

This thing looks like a mix between the B11S/Scrambler and the Forester. I predict it will attract new buyers to Subaru at best and isolate Subie owners at worst. That new grille looks retarded.

I'd rather my insurance company see "Sedan" than "Coupe" when it comes to price quotes. Plus, Mustang's HATE getting beaten by family cars.
Steve - You're right. It does look like a vagina.
Dean - You're exactly right. GM owns 20% of Subaru. Not enough to try and be the big shit. But enough that if they dumped them, Subaru would probably go under. They likely designed this SOLELY to keep GM as an investor as you said.
I want a new SVX. That would be awesome. It'd be even cooler if it had Gullwing's (Deleorean style

)

As long as it wasn't built in Northern Ireland.

A lot of the newer Subaru designs are pretty sharp imho. Hell, I even like the Baja -which at first I was strongly against. After seeing them around for a bit though, and checking one out at a dealership, I actually thinkit's really cool! Very much in the tradition of the Brat (which I'll alway's have a soft spot in my heart for

).
This new...
thing... I dunno. I'm not really into the whole 50's retro thing. Take for instance the new Legacy. Now that's a hot car. Why couldn't the engineering team that put that together have done the same for this thing?
