The Descision...

Sorry i've been gone guys... been doing lots of vehicluar thinking, as well as lots of work, social stuff, etc... :)

I went to my insurance lady today, and got quotes for various vehicles that i would be interested in buying. the 2 cheapest quotes, were $71/month for a 1991 crx si and $73 for a 1994 legacy touring wagon, they just happened to be in my top 3 cars list, being topped by a 98 2.5 RS @ $97. My mom will not let me put any money that I may make off of selling my car towards a CRX because it's a "death trap." I may do what i like with my current vehicle providing she approves of what vehicle the $$'s going towards. I'm thinking perhaps a 94 touring wagon would be a decent car, only downside is it's performance autocrossing, because obviously physics are on the side of the honda gokart. If i go with the legacy, i would probably keep the partywagon, and use it for parts, or buy the touring wagon, swap my struts/springs out, then sell it for cheap as a rally beater or something. The CRX would be SO fun to drive(already owned one, it was a blast) and i could keep my car for winter driving and road trips...

any input? :?:

You want another car because of autocrossing?

Whats your maximum price?

I hear MIATA in my head while reading your post.
If you choose a CRX it will be very disapointing.

well you know what I'm going to suggest.

I need another car because my engine's going to explode in a few k miles. I've got that feeling and it's been heading downhill more rapidly than ever...

A miata would be a stupid car to purchase in the northwest, because of our weather habits. I like to autocross, and having a more competitive vehicle would make the experience a little bit more rewarding for me.

Maximum price is 7g's, but I really dont want to go above 4. I'm going to college next year and finances will be tight.

You are choosing a CRX over a Miata becuase of weather, and think the CRX is automatically better in autox :? Your choice should be reversed for both of those reasons.

You need to read about the autox Miata's and Neon's before talking smack. There are complete divisions dedicated to each of those cars because of there abilities.

Looks like you dont want help, your mind is made up.

My last car was a 1991 crx SI, with the same suspension mods (plus front strut bar) as my current vehicle. I'm just saying that a convertible is not an option. the crx handled way better than my legacy does. My mom doesnt want me to have the crx, and that's probably because another subaru would be safer, have fewer miles, and be more practical.

The legacy would require far more money to be dumped into suspension than the crx would for equal handling, that's a fact. The crx is a little more fun to drive due to the manual transmission(i wont do manual subaru trans, heard nothing but bad things about them), and because it drives like a go-kart. overhangs on the crx are virtually nonexistant, where on my wagon, i've got approximately 2 feet behind my rear wheel.

I really am at an indescision, i dont know which car to go for, and if i should be considering any others

A convertable is not an option? So get a hard top whats the big deal

If you really want to be a serious autocrosser read this page http://www.specmiata.com/

i dont want a convertible, that's all there is to it. Autocross is not the only deciding factor in buying a car, that's why i'm considering another wagon. Cops dont notice them, they're great for hauling stuff around, camping(can sleep in the back), road trips, driving people around, etc. Besides, convertibles have horrible acoustics, should i decide to put a good stereo in there.

Did you not read about the hard top? Your wrong. Test drive one!

Here http://www.gweep.net/~sfoskett/miata/hardtop/

Your telling me that a wagon is better for hauling and all this, I thought we where talking about a CRX?
I love subarus and all but they are the absolute wrong car to choose for autocross.

it was a toss up between a crx and a turbo legacy if you had read my first post..

Why isn't a cheap mid ninties impreza L awd in there? you could easily drop your agx's and whitelines onto it making it an instant handler, right?

Just my .025$

Still not as fast as a Miata or Neon.
No matter what vehicle you pick the Miata/Neon will always be the fastest AutoX car for the money.

just to add more cars into the mix corrado, gti and my alltime fav vw scirocco

All are good handlers and cheap, so why not throw one of those into the descision party :D

NO VW'S

neon, no way, you will not see me buying one of those... ever.

THE CAR IS NOT ONLY FOR AUTOCROSS. IT'S A DAILY DRIVER, WEEKEND FUN WILL PROBABLY OCCUR, BUT IT BEING DAILY DRIVEN AND EASY TO WORK ON IS A NUMBER ONE PRIORITY

If being easy to work on is a priority, just get a Subaru and call it a day.

suby suby suby :D

I'd vote for the legacy turbo or an impreza... not sure what you have heard regarding suby trannies, but most people who have had problems with there trannys couldn't drive them to begin with... or they launched pretty hard... I have 200,000kms on mine and the last 80,000 or so includes tons of track/auto-x and rallying, no problems whatsoever.

The impreza will never be a crx but it can be one hell of an auto-x monster, you'd be in a different class anyways i believe

so slap on an rs bumper lights and grill and be happy :D

rs bumpers look dumb too. only reason i'd go 2.5 rs is because of the higher displacement, and possibility of turbocharging. I'm just not a big fan of old imprezas

I dont think I've even heard of an rs engine doing 14 psi go with the 1.8 for better results with boost. :)
