Did you mean to say you fried the turbo timer? If you really want to do it ghetto, you can take the wire lead (for the LIGHTING of the boost gauge and slide it into the fuse insertion point for the interior/dash lighting (it should be marked in the passenger compartment fuse box in the left kickpanel of the drivers seat).
Slide the wire in and put the fuse in to hold it in place.

I hope you mean "tried" the turbo timer...
Where is your gauge mounted? If it's near the center console the easiest place to tap for lighting is probably the ashtray light. It's got a simple T-shaped connector. One wire will be floating when the lights are off and +12v when the lights are on, and the other will supply a voltage that varies with the dimming. See this page:

I used the cigarette lighter socket. I don't use the damn thing anyways except for my radar detector (which never leaves the car anyways). It's easy to get to and close to the A-pillar.

madsubi hasn't said where he's located, but his sig says the car is a 1993 Legacy GT, so it's probably not North America.

I stole the leads from my emergency light flasher switch, cos I dont think i'd have much trouble finding it in the dark and now the boost gauge dims with the rest of the dash!

i am new here but, when i installed my boost gauge, i hooked up my light to my allumination connection for my radio, it comes on when the head lights and parking lamps are turned on and dims with the dimmer switch. just and option.
