A Couple of people have been asking me what has been going on with my build...

Well, I've been busy on it lately but haven't been taking many pics. I ordered a lot of parts...checked all the tolerences on the block and internals and determined that the bottom end was in excellent shape. Cleaned the hell out of the block, replaced just about every part; seal, nut, bolt & washer and have been busy reassembling the motor....

and tonight I took a few pics while wrapping up the shortblock:

Reinstalled the oil pan sump cover and installed a new pickup tube and o-ring (to replace the bent one that was there!)


Installed New Oil Pan, Cleaned & reinstalled the water pump including a new gasket. Installed a new thermostat and gasket, and cleaned and reinstalled the oil cooler w/ a new o-ring.


Rebuilt and re-sealed (Front seal, o-ring) oil pump, reinstalled on block, installed front water pump-to-oil cooler line & hoses.

I guess it's not looking to shabby!

so you're not tearing apart the short block I take it?

You going to do anything to flush out the rusted crap from the coolant lines?

On the top picture on the right there's a hose where I have a plug in the block...is that for the oil cooler? You have the same plug on the other side as I do.

Yup, that's for the oil cooler. When I installed my oil cooler I removed the coolant drain plug that was there and threaded the nipple in its place.

Yes...done. New Rings & bearings. Based on a Suby Mechanics inspection though, he said everything looked great, well withing specs. He said I should've left it together!

The majority of the rusty crud is gone after a good block soaking with carburator cleaner, what's left should come out with some Prestone Flush once I flush the block when it's assembled. It's so minor now if I run water in the passages and rub the passage with my finger it completely removes the residue. I don't want to do it now and get water in the rings and bearings...
