About 15 minutes ago I attempted to install rear struts/springs from an 02' WRX on my 91' Legacy Turbo. If you read carefully, you would have seen attempted. The springs did not work as the 91 and I believe 90's had a tapered spring with a smaller tophat bolt pattern. I will look at them again tomorrow, perhaps I can use just the "tophats", which is what I refer to the plate with studs that bolt to the chassis, from the 91' and leave the upper spring "retainer" holding the 02' spring in place, I can not tell if it is one piece or two. I have heard of the swap being done, I am just not experienced with it. Otherwise I will try to swap springs to my originals, however using the WRX strut. I know dampening will not be ideal, however my original 130k mile right rear strut went out, and now hits a natural frequency at 60mph, lots of resonance/vibrations. I am debating whether or not to purchase a spring compressor and do it myself, or just take them in, probably the first as I would assume it to be cheaper and a good thing to learn. Hopefully this goes better that my 02' WRX trans swap.
