I just picked up some stuff from Home Depot and Advance Autoparts today:

- a few feet of 2" inner diameter pvc pipe
- 2 90-degree elbows
- 1 2.5" hole saw
- some plastic and pvc epoxy
- flat black plastic paint (for the stock look)

I checked out the stock airbox on Sunday and looking at the airbox and pictures of cold air intakes have figured out the proper routing of the secondary (actually, this should be the primary intake pipe since the stocker hardly has a place to suck air from) piping.

Can't wait till this is done. I hear intakes give appreciable gains in mid and high range power . . . although mine won't be one of those conical filter jobbies, I think the limits to the stock intake system have to do with the crappy inlet design on the airbox.

Plus, I can keep some low-end torque that is usually lost with an aftermarket intake. I suspect this has to do with the lack of a reserve champer (ie: intake box) just like the subarus with their small intake plenum.

Of course, a k&N drop in is the next mod. We'll see how this goes.

Awesome! It's a gratifying experience when you make your own stuff.

Definately get some before and after pictures!

I've got a similar intake mod this weekend, but since pre-turbo is as restriction free as possible, I'm looking to add post-turbo restriction.

THAT'S RIGHT!! Seems like no one on the Celica boards is the DIY-type. Comin from the turbo legacy background, seems like EVERYTHING was DIY. I guess old habits never die. I'd like to ultimately do a comparison test between my make shift intake and an aftermarket one. I have a feeling the gains will be close.

And at only $25, this mod can't be beat!!

I'll be sure to take some pictures. I'm sure many people will be asking for pics and directions IF this does help performance-wise.

Can't wait to add "Home Depot Intake" to my list of mods:)
