That's just a BC5 (89-91 overseas) legacy that has the plate in the rear section. It just so happens that the trim level they get doesn't have the chrome stripes.

Those rear lights are taller then the bc6's rear lights.

Josh,

Those are indeed BC6 tailights on that car. The oversea's spec legacy's/ liberty's (89-90) also got the taller taillights with chrome strips (many people painted them black though) and a similar center-section (bottom part was painted from the factory). Have a look:

I just took some video of a car with very similar tails. I was driving and the only thing I had with me was the video camera. The car I saw had a black middle section though. I hadn't seen one like that in the U.S. so I took some vid. just to prove it to myself  Apparently there was a Legacy in the U.S. that had that taillight configuration.

something doesn't seem right.....the trim and styling of the top pics seem different then the bottom ones.

I don't know......I've measured the lights on mine vs. the 92-94 models, and the rear ones can't be swapped. To swap the front, you'd have to do the fenders and everything else.

Most of the datum points are the same. However the length of the datum points for sides that the fender bolts on are a touch longer, despite the fact the engine bay points are the same.

That car is very strange, seems like the owner liked to look of the 91-93 rear and the 89-90 front (overseas spec post/pre face-lifted years). And just plowed on with all-out conversion. Either he swapped out the front or rear. Like you mentioned Josh, the front needs quite abit of work, for the rear you'd need a new trunk and rear bumper, along with some custom taillight mounting work. Either way several new parts are needed. I'm curious which way he went though.

I know which body style it is ;)

It's definitely a 91-93 chassis car with an 89-90 front end.

He swapped hood, fenders, grill, etc. everything up front. The rear would be too hard to swap because you wouldn't be able to fit the different lights into the holes. You would have to cut out the rear fenders and that mess.

Now.....do you want to know how I know for sure what year it is?

Take a look at these two legacies

Same angle for the pics, one is a 94, one is a 91. See if you can tell me what's different besides the tail lights, front hood, fenders etc.

Then look at the pics in this thread for corrolations. Who'll be the first to see

Are you talking about the "Legacy" badge? Or the Subaru logo badge in the center of the trunk? How would you know if the owner swapped whatever the difference was, though?

close, but not that one....yeah you could swap that easy. There's something else.....and the trend is the same for our US legacies, which is one of the reasons why I'm saying it's the 91-93 chassis

Okay Josh, I have looked at these pictures for WWAAAYYYY too long now and have concluded that the car is in fact an older 89-90 Legacy. My first reasoning is my initial reaction. Not always reliable. The second is the little reflectors behind the front wheels existent on 92-94 but not on the olders. I can't remember what else I was going to get.

Those side marker lamps are part of the fenders. You have to swap the front fenders to fit the headlights.

Ok, here's a hint.

"Legacy"

I'm headin off to bed. If no one gets it by the morning, I'll post the answer.

yours truely got it within seconds. Look at the rear corner window. The early ones have the badass raised area where the legacy logo is right under the glass. The later models dont.

I'm not seeing it, Scott... The sheetmetal's shape looks about the same to me.

A badge can be added/removed quite easily. I noticed the light behind the front wheel well, and theres no chrome behind the rear door on the 92-94.

Scott got it.

I don't think the sheetmetal is changed or anything, just that the legacy badge is not there and there doesn't look to be a chrome strip at the base of the triangular window.

Yes you can debadge that piece, and yes you can paint over the chrome, but the fact that the US legacies have the same setup, it leaves me to believe with good confidence that it's 91-93 MY. Also, like I said the tail lights between model years will NOT interchange. You would have to do major modifications, which in my mind is not worth it.

YA under the little triangle window behind the rear window that can be rolled down....I,ve always known that though.they stopped doing that in 92 on all models.I thought it was going to be something better, you could pop those off and fill the holes and paint and you wouldn't even be able to tell. vrg3 already got it though right off the bat

 damn three replies while I typed that last one  the 91 model year was the last to get those though not 92 or 93
