Saturn Driving Impressions

I was out goofing off today and went by the local Saturn dealership. The first car I looked at was a 2001 SC2 coupe. Looked sharp w/ the bright red paint, alloys, and the spoiler on the back. I personally don't see whats soo great about these cars. It only had 40k miles on it and the trans shifted all crappy and I realized how great the boxer sound is....this engine sounded...well...nasal. For $9980 I think I would pass.

The second car was a 2003 Ion Quadcoupe in silver. Not as attention grabbing as the SC2 but still a decent looking car. It took me a few minutes to get used to the CVT--not sure if I like not feeling the transmission shift. The engine seemed to have decent power but with the CVT and center mounted gauges I found it hard to "control" my speed. I was coming off a ramp and the lil son of a gun was cruisin 70 like nothing when the speed limit is 35. Again I missed the boxer sound. With 3300 miles and for $13980, it seemed like a decent buy.

Overall I wasn't that impressed. Both cars lacked the character and charm that my car has. Even though shes got almost 165k miles, door dings, and rust...I wouldn't be able to give it up for anything else. :D

You can slam someone's head into the door and it won't dent.... so I hear...

Supposedly the polymer panels are incredibly dent resistant, but I don't know. I know a girl whose ex boyfriend took a hammer to her SC1 and the car has like 3 good sized holes in the fenders. She calls my car a box and I laugh and say at least the fenders are all in one piece :D

Depends on if it was REALLY cold ootside when he took the hammer to them.

Cold = chance of panels being less elastic to impacts.

In the cold, they will crack.

The fenders aren't dent resistant, just the door panels.

The idea was first put into action by the AMC Eagle. I've seen a bunch of those and not one has a dent in the door.

Ohhhh...I thought all the side panels were dent resistant. I learned something new today.

The front fenders were dent resistant on the old cars since they were plastic. Don't know about the new ones, but I hear the upcoming minivan will hade all steel panels.

Ah, so Saturn's becoming as irrelevant as Saab, now. Thatnk Christ GM only owns 20% of Fuji.
