2.2 radiator vs 2.2l turbo

Are these the same size or is the turbo one bigger?

The turbo one's bigger and also a little different because it has no cap and has a hose fitting instead of a burb screw.

Not an easy drop in or swap..

You also have the expansion tank on the turbo as well that you have to deal with. If you are trying to get a better flowing radiator for a 2.2 NA car, you can get an aftermarket or custom one built for your application.

The turbo radiator set up is a bit of a pain to deal with vs. NA.

I am upgrading my 95 2.2l to handle 12 psi (already running 7psi). Need to get rid of the heat. Since it is bigger I am thinking about installing the turbo radiator (if it will bolt on).

just add water...

as in water injection. a very simple and effective kit can be bought or made for around 300 or less depending on how much you want to tackle yourself. check it out, you'll be glad you did.

Water injection will help cooling, but it's not the same thing as a more capable cooling system.

You can fit a turbo radiator to your car very easily if you also fit the coolant filler tank from a factory turbo Legacy or Impreza. It might be easiest toget the WRX's filler tank, pictured here:

How is your turbo currently getting its coolant supply? Are you using a turbo water pump?

The original w replaced w a non-turbo unit about 2 years ago. Also had the oil pump replaced.

So where are you routing coolant from for the turbo?

The turbo is oil cooled. Ties into the oil line at the oil pressure sending guage. Returns back to the valve cover where a hole was tapped for the return line.

Ah, so you're not running coolant to it at all... Did you do that in an attempt to help keep coolant temparatures down, or does the turbo not have the option of water cooling?

the ball bearing turbo is oil cooled by design. How is the turbo on the 22t kept cooled?

The stock EJ22T turbo unit is cooled by both oil and water.

So the ball bearing turbo you have doesn't have a water jacket at all? What kind of turbo is it exactly?

Cool.

Well, if you want to try to fit a turbo coolant filler tank and radiator, you could probably run the heater circuit through the filler tank and make it work.

just in case anyone is wondering if the opposite works...I'm using an NA radiator in my 2.2T at the moment and it works perfectly.

I'm doing this while I search for a racing radiator...but i'll make my own thread for that.

I am swapping out my 2.2 for a 2.2t. Is the 95 2.2 fuel pump strong enough for 18psi? :D Also how much boost can the 2.2t handle for day to day driving?

No, it's not strong enough. Look for a lightly used Walbro pump on NASIOC.
