Yeah so I take my car to my Flatirons Subaru and they said a new tranny would run me around $6200, so I said "F that yo, im going to AAMCO Bitch!"

AAMCO said they can rebuild it around $2500-$3000 so now Ill have almost a brand new car cause I just got new brakes, tires, and GR-2's
bad part is now im broke

DO NOT go to AAMCO. They permanently f-ed my 4eat. Took over a month to fix it, got it back, no 4wd. Lasted 6 months, blew front diff and tranny again. "Fixed" under warranty, lasted maybe 7 months now broken again. 4wd never worked right again... :x

Kinda too late now, but I have faith, the AAMCO in boulder said they work on a lot of Subaru's and there was a bunch of them parked outside there. Thats too bad about your tranny, hope it doesn't happen to me :(

yeah it was one of those pay $6200 or $3000 deals, plus i need the car up and running as soon as possible as I have to drive to denver to go to school.

Unlike some people im not blessed with a second vehicle and right now I have to cruise the mini van, which feels like im driving a boat or possibly an armchair, where on every turn I feel like im going to fly outta my seat

I got a used 5MT with 70k installed for $1400. Rebuilt was over 2k so I took a chance. 60k and counting. I think all the J-turns killed it so I don't do those in my car anymore.

I wish I had a summer vacation, I get a summer break thats only 3 weeks :(

J-turns..fun :) I don't think Ill do those cause I get E-brake happy when its snowy or muddy

The $2500-$3000 is just an estimate too so it my be less, or more...

Did you check out Super Rupair on the North end of Broadway? When I was living out there that was the only place I'd let touch my car.

J-turns don't use the e-brake. They're the ones where you drive fast in reverse, then spin the car around and take off seamlessly going forward. It's tough to coordinate with a manual since you have to really whip the wheel around and it almost takes two hands. My transmssion didn't seem to like it.

It shouldn't cost 6k, try and find a good, honest independant shop to replace it... I know a shop that would do it for about $800-$1000...

I had a shop replace the transmission in my Mercedes about 2 years ago, and they did it with a used unit for $1100 (the transmission was a factory rebuilt unit with 5k miles). If I took it to a dealer it probally would have been $3000-$4000...
