My new headunit!

Picked it up today. I decided that I needed a victory present for myself for finally getting the car on the road.

I decided that I wanted to keep some coin in the bank incase something happened to the car (clutch or something) so I am postponing the exhaust until a bit later in the summer when I can get a feel for the car stock.

So, I picked up a headunit (which, in reality, didn't set me back anything that I won't be picking up within the next week).

What'd I get? I got a Pioneer 860MP deck.

It's got some cool features, which I enjoy because I drive a lot. One of those cool features is self imaging. It comes with a microphone. You clip the microphone to your collar or something, and turn on the unit. Push a few buttons, and the head unit sets output levels to each speaker for proper imaging. Like you're sitting in the middle of the car.

Unfortunately, I have to give up my Sirius sattelite radio in exchange for XM, but I'll deal. Switching to XM, I'll save some money because my mom has XM in her new car, so I get a discount on the monthly fee ($6 monthly instead of 10. I prefer sirius, but I'll get used to it).

I paid a bit more than I was expecting, but I'm not to worried about it. I needed a headunit, and I didn't want to cheap out. Good sound is hard to come by, and I have a taste for quality music.

Check it out...

Goes in the car on Tuesday when the school year is over for me :)

That's a real nice looking unit. I love the dials and that self imaging feature sounds sweet. I'm not too big on the flip faces when driving as with the regular ones I can switch discs without looking and the flip face makes it more difficult. I usually don't care for the big over-animated screens either, but that one looks nice - not cheap like the other ones I've seen. Body color looks like it probably matches the interior well, too. I like it.

Steve - I'm not either, but it has black-white mode with real toned down subtle stuff (like clouds for one. That was the selling feature. Listening to Karma Police with the clouds on, chill-o-rama.)

Jason - Wait until I get my amp and gear in...

This it also a good excuse for a custom, angled gauge pod :) I might go pick up a super super cheap pillar pod, hack it up and fiberglass over everything, sand and paint it up. Should look REAL legit, and all gauges angled at the driver.

Customize your screen with fresh background pictures or screensavers, or create your own from your digital pictures or home movies, using the FREE Pioneer OEL Screensaver Studio software!
That's cool. But you'll have to explain to your Mom why there is porn on your head unit...

I'm interested. What components do you plan to put in the car?

I'm just going to run my junky old stuff for a while until I decide on what route I want to go. My old amp is a Bazooka 600w jobby and the sub is a Lightning Audio 15.

I'll probably replace both with something better down the road.

Hey, whatever works.

I might ask my old roommate to see if he has his old Boston Rally 6.5 component set . . . he was lookin to sell them for pretty cheap, if you're interested.
