Well I made the trip......

.....and I don't ever want to do something like that again. It's not that the mileage was a bitch....it was driving a questionably unsound mechanical car.....with NO AC.

First thing.....I had to get up at 3am....to catch the 5:30 flight....but oh well. So I got 4-5 hrs of sleep if I was lucky.

Got into west palm.....the guy was an hour and half late picking me up....again...oh well....shit happens. We got the title and temp plate swapped ok.

The car is how you say....a piece of shit! Outside is beat....don't really care too much about outside....but interior is nasty.....stinky....but sticky, dirty, slimey......I feel dirty just sitting in it.

The car runs fine. The pass axle boot was gone....completely...and was making noises. I ended up stopping at a service center, got some grease and smeared it into the axle. That seemed to help a little bit. Also.....the AC was dead.............so I drove 1175 miles with no AC......the shifter linkage is like a sloppy whore.....the clutch grabs up near the top.....so it's probably so-so or needs adjusting. I checked all the tires. The spare had 0.8 psi in it....

wiper blades were dry rotted.

I was going to stop and see subyluvrr in orlando....and either directions got screwed up or I missed the turn.....and with the way things were going....I didn't feel like goin back.

I made good time. driving trip time was 18 hours which includes gas, food, and pit stops. I slept in the car about 5 hours or so.....not too much...and not too comfortable.

I made it to just outside pensecola from west palm on friday night. Then made the rest of the drive to Houston today. Got in around 3:30.

When I got into houston the engine started making some clicking noise....either a lifter or exhaust leak is what it sounded like. However it's not doing it any more.....oil was fine........

So.....this car is definitely going to be the donor car for the AWD swap. It'd take too much work & money to make it to the point I'd be ok driving it on a daily basis.

I will give the car props.....it made it....even in the condition it's in. So that's got to say something.....this car wasn't really taken car of too well.....it has a CEL.....it's the canister purge solenoid......but it ran pretty well despite that.

I was goin about 80-85 most of the time, and pushed it a littel faster as I got towards houston......and I was still getting passed.....would've loved to have my car......oh well.

It's not a loss.....especially for $750 (prob have $1000 with airfare and such).......I've got stuff for my swap....

Oh...and pics :)

haha.....yeah I'm glad I just made it back :)

I guess it's something to say about the first gen legacies......built like tanks.....they keep goin even if you don't take care of them.

Glad to hear it went ok. I did the same thing when I got my GL Wagon. Long story short... I didn't realize how far Boston is from Cleveland (like 500 miles or so) and I made plans to go to Baltimore (it's a city that starts with a "B" on the east coast, give me a break).

But me and friend drove out there and I drove that sucker back pretty much full throttle the entire way. We would follow whoever was the fastest car on the highway... until we ran into that guy in NY that was rolling over 100 :)

And oh yeah, remind me never to sell a car to you, Josh, if you think that car is pretty beat up on the outside... And go ahead and put a sound system in that puppy, that's what wagons are good for (besides carrying stuff and making you look like a soccer mom). Yeah, that's right Laurel, I said it.

Sounds like it was exciting to say the least.

A donor car eh? Gonna part any of it out? I might be interested in a few things there.

Anyone can drive long distance in something nice, it takes a guts and a sense of adventure to nurse a POS long distance.

Outside really isn't too bad....there's some rust and other dents.......that's not really my concerned.

The inside is what's more or less the issue. Plus I'd probably have to put in at least $1000 in parts and other stuff just to get it to the point where I feel comfortable driving it as a daily driver....not to mention fix the a/c ;)

Yup....AWD & 5MT swap. I'm using a turbo legacy trans, driveline, & lsd rear diff. I'll get the rear susp, gas tank, & other misc crap from this car.

oh....and depending on how things go, and if I can get someone to pick up the car after I'm done with raping it.....will determine what if I part anything out.

depending on when you do it I might need one thing, but can you do me a favor and see if there is a release spring on the clutch fork?

What trans type you using....n/a or turbo?

I'm planning on getting under there at some point and time to check everything out.....I'll see what I can find out.

I'm probably going to need the pedal assembly from a tlegacy or a late model subie since the tlegacy trans is hydraulic instead of cable.

Laurel,

Not sure I know what you're asking.....inside, outside.....any particular thing

the outside of them, I've got dings on all 4 doors, and have looked at the local junkyards, no silver legacies...

I'm sorry I meant could you check on your tranny :)

Laurel.....I wouldn't want to try and ship the doors. If you wanted to come down to pick them up....that'd be a possibility.

I want to get my trans swap done....and then see who would actually take the car from me, so i don't have to try and pay to get rid of it.

Hey Josh, yeah glad you made it back...

Don't worry about the missed meeting. People frequently get lost coming through central FL, the signs are NOT the best, that's for sure.

I still have to go back and return that can of lithium grease I bought for you though

The car actually doesn't look that bad. Yeah it might be too nasty for picky people like you or me, but trust me, I've seen MUCH worse ;) That CV boot is not just torn though, it looks like it's missing entirely

However, I'm confused on something. Apparently that car has ABS, meaning it's an LS. But wait! I though ABS was only on LS 4WD AT's...

yeah sorry about the grease.

Don't ask me.....this car is sort of weird. It probably should've been a 91 MY. It was made in the SIA plant on 6/90. So it may be a bastard child one. It's just an L as far as I know though....

that is wierd...

subyluvr2212, are you talking just about 1990 models? Cuz I used to have a 91 Legacy L AWD 4EAT sedan with ABS.

I cannot find a 1991 brochure to save my life, so I settled for a 90 brochure. And as best I remember, for the 1990MY, ABS was only on LS 4WD AT's :? If yours is an L, Josh, that's even weirder...

Don't worry about the grease, I'll probably actually find a use for it in the garage somewhere :D

I remember seeing some now lost paperwork for my car that said ABS was an option on the L. I remember it because I'm glad I don't have it. A/C was another option alnog with some other junk. Did get the A/C, though.

Well I drove the wagon to ikea last night because I needed the space. Actually it doesn't drive too bad. The seat definitely holds you better. Not sure if the seat is actually different or if mine's that worn out.

It's idling pretty low, but I'm assuming that's because the cpc valve is stuck open or something.

It'll be really nice to get a 5spd in my car.....and actually be able to "drive" it.

it's a shame I'm just using the wagon for parts.....but oh well.
