i used to drive my moms 00 forester 5spd. for a while it used to be faster than my leg.. After a few modifications to my leg. i drove my moms car again. my car is now quite a bit faster than the forester. i must be running around 175-180. my moms is stock with 165 and it only has 40k so it has almost all its power.

Never trust the buttdyno.

The Tlegacy has almost the exact same power as the Forester. It also weighs a bit less if I'm not mistaken.

The turbo's got a better torque curve too...

Phil's right when he says to never trust the butt dyno. A car can easily feel fast when it isn't really, especially if it handles well.

Though you could argue that if it feels like it's driving well, that's all that really matters for a street-driven car.

A good quick example is to take, say, a '70's V8 Chevy Nova vs. something like a Honda (high torque/low hp vs. low torque/high hp). The Nova would probably feel much faster by throwing you back in the seat when you touch the gas while the other car would feel slow, yet timing gear could show that the other car is actually quicker. Why? The torque made by the Nova's V8 comes in at a low rpm so when you hit the gas the force is felt right away, translating into an immediate effect. The low hp rating, however, assures that once the initial acceleration takes place the torque can't be put down fast enough to maintain rapid acceleration. You might still be pushed into the seat a little. The high HP/low torque car has to wind itself out to access its torque and so it feels like you're sitting around waiting. A turbo car can sometimes feel the same way if the lag is great...until it kicks in with boost.

The old Mercedes Diesel's can be another good example of this too, they have low hp, but lots of low end tourque, they can seem quick at times, but not as much so as they actually are. I've ridden in a few where they threw me back against the seat coming off the line...

Torque has a lot to do with everything. No torque, no balls.

Horsepower sells cars, Torque wins races.

Yeah, that jerk-off got his 'turbo' engine from Fuji.

I thought my hint would be good enough, but I was thinking ciper said that. In that discussion we had about torque and rpms and all taht crazy stuff.

Yea, what happened to him? I miss his "if you had an automatic, you wouldn't have this problem" comments that would have surely been said in my dying-clutch thread.
