need 3.90 LSD - which Subarus?

First post for this novice.

I would like rear LSD for my 1994 Legacy Turbo wagon - 4EAT. I drive through plenty of deep snow attempting to get to my cabin in winter. I will have good snow tires but I think the LSD will save me getting stuck enough to make this worth it.

I understand that the first step is to locate a 3.90 rear LSD from another Subaru in the junkyard.

What cars should I seek out?

There were a couple posts that had some good details from people that have made the change. Is there anything else I (I mean my mechanic friend ;-) need to know?

Thanks,

I don't have much info about the diffs, but I'm sure Ciper will be able to help you out in that regard :D I just wanted to comment one your car's beautiful color. I haven't seen that color before. Is it custom, or just a Canada only color?

1991 Sport Sedans had LSD's, I would guess the touring wagon of the same year would have one also.

First post for me too...

I have a 94 touring wagon (white, 125K miles, 4EAT) also. I guess that makes 3.

I bought mine about 5 months ago. I lost my Supra Turbo in snow related wreck. Needed new wheels fast - found the subaru on E-bay. Seller lived only 20 miles away.

Just thought I'm make myself known. This topic seemed as good as any other.

Well, if you guys need any other parts Ill be glad to hook you up but the LSD is the one item I planned to recoupe costs with.

Since these are so popular (among non subaru as well, datsun for example) I was thinking of posting on ebay. Unless someone gives a good offer here.

Realize the LSD is HEAVY, shipping might be 40$

I came very close to buying a 5MT turbo sedan in that color, but the price ($5500) was too high for the bad brakes, rust, and smoke coming from the exhaust. Plus felt weaker than my N/A. Beautiful, though. Almost the same color as my N/A wagon.

The dealer and registrant seem to call the colour "blue". To me it is a blue/green or green/blue even, depending on the day. I took the photo at 9pm so it looks a lot darker than it really is. It does not seem to be a very common colour.

Cipher, I was hoping that someone would tell me that they have a LSD for sale. If your's is still available, I am interested. If not I will be heading to the junkyards.

Thanks for all the welcomes and nice comments about the car. This car was driven very little and taken good care of by previous owners. I rescued it off a dealer in March. It had been sitting there for TWO years. They had not even posted an ad for it. I just called them up to ask if they had a Legacy wagon and that is how I found it. It had only 71,000 KM on it when I got it.

It has Nokian performance highway tires on it. It was very easy to get it stuck on snow w/ those tires and no LSD. As soon as I nudged the right corner of the front bumper into a snowbank, and while on hard packed snow, I got one tire spinning in the front and the opposite one in the back and it was game over.

I will take photos and write some notes, if I change the LSD.

Thank you,

WILL>
