I've got the factory radio in my '93 Legacy. At idle and under acceleration the radio works. But as soon as I take my foot off the accelerator, there's no sound. The antenna lead where it plugs into the back of the radio was a little loose it seems; it's tight now and the radio is actually louder but the same problem persists--under deceleration the radio is heard no more. (I know I asked this question on another thread somewhere but I can't seem to find it.)

Oh yeah, I forgot toask: is this a ground problem? And if so, is there a certain ground wire to clean/tighten? I'd appreciate any help. It seems like everytime I need to hear something like where the traffic jams are I have to decelerate and I don't get to hear what I need to hear.

The radio does ground through the antenna as well as through the ground wire of the harness.

The ground wire from the harness goes to a ring terminal that's somewhere behind the trim to the left of the ABS computer.

You might just want to try adding a new ground strap.

How do I find the antenna ground?

I don't have ABS on my car so I have no idea where the harness or ring terminal would be.

Sorry, I said "ABS" but I meant "airbag."

It's just somewhere behind the plastic that's to the right of the driver's knees.

I don't know where the antenna ground is, or even if it's an actual separate ground; it may just be that the antenna is bolted to the chassis where it's mounted.

The quickest thing to try would be to just add a new ground. Get a short length of 10-gauge wire and a couple of ring terminals to crimp/solder onto its ends. Attach one to one of the screws mounting the stereo to its cage, and find a bolt going through the chassis for the other one. You should be able to find one somewhere around the steering column.
