While my car was waiting to be aligned today they told me the I needed 2 bellow boots or else my rack and pinion would go to hell in a handbasket basically. How hard are these to replace? And will the rack in pinion fall out in "one week" like they told me if I don't do it ASAP?

Thanks

well, if they need fixed, get them fixed right away. it's not like an half-shaft where it's like oh well, i'll just replace it. a steering rack is listed as something like 12 hours for R&R. So yes, if the boots are messed up, get them fixed.

Ok thanks so are these "wear" items that need to be checked on every now and then or does something cause them to go bad?

they are easily damaged if something gets up there and cuts it, which is rare. but yes, it is something to be checked everytime you are underneath the car. also, when guys don't know what they are doing during an alignment, they can twist the boot until it will get damaged eventually.

this is what happened on my car. it was like that when i bought it (twisted boot). it eventually shredded apart.

They're easy to change, but if you don't it will likely kill your rack. Happened to me.
