Was my timing belt way off?????

When I was taking my timing belt off I lined up one of the cam pulleys and noticed that the other cam pulley was off a few teeth. The crank was off a ton. I thought I was seeing things so I spun the motor over a few times then realigned, still off?? I broke out the FSM, it said all the marks should line up with the respective marks on the case/covers. I heard this engine run, but never drove it. I still think I read something wrong.
Did I read the FSM wrong? I lined up the cam pulleys with the notches on the cover and lined the crank with the mark on the block.

Sounds like it was indeed off. If both cam pulleys were aligned, then they should have stayed aligned w/ eachother independantly of the crank sprocket.
I remember when i last did my timing belt that i used the wrong mark on the crank sprocket. I think it was the arrow instead of the notch on the sprocket, or vice versa

As long as the lines on the belt line up with the notches/marks on each pulley, then you're good to go.

I kinda wonder how well this engine ran? If the timing was retarded on one side then it would have been down on HP. The pistons and valves look fine. I'm pulling the valves tonight to check straightness.

Sounds like it would have run like poo

If it's the legacy engine, no need to check the valves. It's a non interference engine.

True...but that's if the timing is correct. If the belt is way off that it's opening the valves when the piston is TDC then bang!! I don't think this is the case because I heard the engine run and it didn't back fire or anything. It was kinda smooth so I'm not sure if it's tweeked or I'm tweeked.
Edit...I'm wrong. Nevermind

you sure you lined up the proper timing marks?
The marks on the cam sprockets to the case and the proper mark on the crank gear.

I think...I used the FSM as a guide. I lined the cam sprockets to the marks on the covers and the crank to the block mark. I think the car has had a new belt in it's life time because all the marks has white paint on them.

did you use the arrow on the crank pulley or the notch?
