The engine on my leg will likely need to be dealt with soon. It pings at higher rpms which is starting to annoy me. What should i do with the engine. Is it cheaper/better to rebuild this one, if so what would need to be done (ballpark prices too if u got em)
My other option is a swap, i have always wanted to have a turbo but i think i would be better off with another ej22
I have in the neighborhood of 2500 for engine and trany work. I dont know how much of the work i could do either with my scheduel.
I value ur opinions

It's only pinging? Why would that necessitate a new engine? All that means is that you're not using gas that has enough octane.
If you're running 87 right now, try 89. Legacy777 and I both feel that in our cars' old age, 89 is probably the best gas to run in an NA Legacy. If you're running 89 and it's still pinging, then don't put 91-93 in it. You have excessive carbon buildup. Try some Seafoam (search that term) or just give it a good ole Italian tune-up (drive the hell out of it

).

With $2500 at your disposal, you step out of the cheapskate (broke) world of most of us.
Tranny wise though I would just get a used tranny and save a serious amount of money for the engine.
If you are not going turbo and want more power AND are going to be doing it yourself which would mean more money saved, I would attempt a hight compression engine with custom pistons and rods.

I second what suby says. Sea Foam is an amazing product and dailt Italian tune ups have kept my car still running well on 87.

Seafoam really works it the best stuff I've ever used. Do you guys put it in the gas tank and the oil?? Or both. Just wondering. I've only used it in the gas tank.

I've poured it through the PCV and in the gas tank.
