Car alarm?

I'm not sure if this belongs here or in electrical...

Basically, I dislike the 2000's car alarm. It honks. Loudily. It's irritating when I pull in at like 2 am and it goes 'HONK!'

Is there a way to upgrade the alarm? Mom's 2003 Outback has an alarm, and it 'beeps' instead of honks. I wish this one would do that instead. =\ I did put this alarm into 'silent mode', where the lights just flash when it arms or disarms, but the beep would be nice.

From what I've seen so far, I don't think the alarm is an actual chip or unit that can be removed or even found.

One last question. Can I get new zappies (the alarm armer/disarmer) for this car? I know Mom's zappies are a lot different than the zappie I got with this car.

Zappie = remote = Transmitter

Sorry, went rafting and to a play today (Shakespeare), so I'm a little out of it. :p

....must....not....laugh..............

well let me get this straight, you ask if you can get rid of the honk sound when you arm and disarm, then you say 3 lines down that you put the unit in silent mode........um what is your question?

ashland?

if you want an alarm that's actually effective, then ditch the stock setup and have a real one installed

The play was in Ashland, yes. OSF. :p

I don't care about effectiveness... The fact is, either the transmitter or the reciever is getting old, because I have to be in a specific spot for it to arm/disarm or lock/unlock. =\ It's irritating. I wish I could have the stock unit removed completely now.

It's in silent mode. The lights don't flash, though, so I doubt the alarm is actually working. It's too noisy to use because I often come home at 2 am and if I locked the car up, it would wake the neighbors. =\

I'd rather have one identical to my mom's though. =\

Eh. I'll just use it for keyless entry.
