My 91 Legacy idles rough. Repaced plugs,wires,filters, and O2 sensor recently. I looked at the engine in the dark to look for wires arcing, and I noticed a lot of arcing going on inside the coilpack. Is this normal? Is it a simple job to replace the coilpack and where to find one? Thanks for any feedback.

I dunno if thats normal or not, I wouldnt think so, but its a simple job to replace it if it needs it. Unplug the plug wires, disconnect the connector, and unbolt the four bolts holding it to the intake manifold. Cheapest would probably be the junkyard, or someone here.

That's definitely not right. You shouldn't see any arcing at all; in our ignition systems the only place the spark jumps a gap is at the spark plugs.

If you don't already have a Diamond coil pack this would be a good opportunity to upgrade to one.

Junk yard is the best bet. Let me know if you can't find one and I can probably get one for a good price.

[shameless plug] I also have a non-diamond (Hitachi) for sale in the parts shed. [/shameless plug] The Diamond is better though.

My car is idling rough (again) and accelerating rough as well. I replaced the plugs, wires, and fuel filter just a few weeks ago. It ran fine for a while and then my radiator hose blew fluid over everything. Replaced that and now it's running rough again. My local Suby mechanic suggested that I replace the coil pack. I read that the Diamond stock one is better than the Hitachi stock one if the ignition system is gonna be upgraded. I don't plan on dropping over $300 for a MSD DIS-2.

Will I get any benefit from the Diamond over the Hitachi if I leave everything else stock??

I *just* got the Hitachi one from the local parts dealer (22433AA360 - $80). And if anyone else can verify this stock# for the Diamond: 22433AA400. Is that the one with the female connections so that it will connect correctly?

I don't know where around Boston you are, but there's a Legacy at Ferris Auto (Junk yard) in Salem. Its beige 2wd auto wagon. IT had a coil, but I think it was Hitachi - I didn't really look as I was trying to find AWD suspension parts.

Hey is the diamond coils packs u talk of the same the JDM RS and WRX coil on plug coils? cuz those things cant even handle 17+ psi only firing one plug

$80, damn! I could have probably gotten you a used Diamond for around $30.

FWIW: The part number on my current coil pack is 22433AA230. I tested it last night and the resistance across the termainals (1-2, 3-4) is 14.7. Does anyone know if that's normal for this pack?
I checked the 22433AA360 and it shows 13.7, so I'm guessing that's fine. But when I checked the connector resistance (2-1, 2-3) it all came out as 0.00 I thought I would get 0.7 from the connector:

The connector resistances for the 22433AA230 also showed 0.00. Am I supposed to check the connector with the plug wires still on?

Thanks Evo and leg92! But because the coil is an electrical part, I'm wondering if a used Diamond pack is better than a new Hitachi?

Anyone know if the Diamond is a better part in general and what the part number is?
