Its riveted in there isn't it? I just changed to the black interior and I want to make sure that I keep the VIN from the old dash (so every time I smog it I won't run into problems potentially), but what is the best way to pull that off?

Take a drill.....drill out the pop rivet core.....then swap plate......re-pop rivet it back in there.

what josh said, drill out the rivet and rivet the new vin in.

So far i've just left my old vin on the old dash piece, which i'm not sure where that is..

Well....the dash is already in the car.... which will make it hard to stick on there right. I guess I could just super glue it in place or something.

You could use pop rivets to install the new plate.

Thin double-sided tape. Its what the criminals in my novel do all the time also changing to new VIN-matching plates courtesy of their people in the DMV.
