Can't find the EGR

I finally replaced my timing belt and it caused my check engine light to be reduced to one code (I had about 8 before hand, 90K on the timing belt). Now I only have code 35, which is Purge Control Solenoid for the EGR system. Anyhow, I've read through the Haynes manual for instructions on how to test the different components of the EGR system and am plenty ready to figure it out and replace parts as needed. The only problem is I can't seem to find the damn thing. The place it is shown in the picture in the Haynes is off a DOHC 2.5 and it's not there. I also checked the Impreza 2.2 Factory Service manual and it shows the same pictures. Anyhow, anyone know where it's at. Pics show it above cylinder four. Nothing there in my car. I'll post pics tomorrow and maybe someone can point me in the right direction. My car won't pass emissions with a CEL and the plates and emissions expired in May. Thanks in advance.

The purge control solenoid valve should be right behind the power steering pump, under the intake manifold. It should have two hoses connected to it...

Our cars have no EGR. The purge control valve is part of the evaporative emissions control system. It's just where Andrew said, and is a fairly common failure on older BC/BFs.

And it's a BITCH to replace. I had to get my wife with her smaller hands in there to reconnect the hoses. Also, that little piece of hose that does a 180 was super brittle on mine and I had to replace it. Make sure you've got some extra vacuum hose around when you do it.
