Max boost on stock turbo

Can anyone tell me the maximum amount of boost i can run on the stock turbo in my EJ22T? I've put on a boost controller, but i don't want to run more than the turbo can handle. i'm putting in a boost guage tonight to let me know exactly how much boost i'm running.

What modifications have you done to your car?

WHen you get to 13psi you'll know how much more you can put on, but before you go upping the boost you might want to do some airflow mods first...

Intercooler and exhaust being those mods.

I run 15psi with a 3" TBE, and an all-aluminum Intercooler (might swap the 10-channel for comparison sake), with the coffee mug mod, and no snorkus.

Runs just fine for me :)

i ran 13 psi for a while. with the autronic, 2.5 turboback, and hks headers. i found that to really be the limit of the turbo. it ran great with that combo. spooled up by about 2000 rpm. felt almost as quick as my sti. was proabally making around 250 crank but probabally more torque. had a good immediate punch but pretty much ran out by 5k. but more than just the turbo infuences that.

yeah our turbos crap out pretty quickly at higher RPMs. They spool up quick though. Once you get over 10psi they just shoot up to whatever maximum boost you've got set, and it doesn't take very long to get there either. Pulls nice.

I put a ghetto rigged turbo boost controller on it, and i can run up to 27 psi, but i really don't want to blow the turbo. but lemme tell ya, 27 psi is wicked. i've got it at a steady 10 psi right now, but before i boost it up more i want to either replace the stock turbo with an aftermarket, or rebuild and bore the original. are there any aftermarket turbos that link up pretty well with our cars, or do they all pretty much require a lot of modification?

When I first setup my Joe-p MBC I had the screw all the way in instead of out so it was bleeding off all boost to the wastegate. Let me tell you that the stock turbo will push 25+ psi and it almost broke my seat it threw me back sooo hard. Of course I immediately pulled over and turned it down to respectable levels though as I'm sure I was pumping moulten lava into the TB.

at 27psi with superheated plasma pumping into your engine with no intercooler and not nearly enough fuel to compensate... I'd be more concerned with blowing the engine. :D But thats just me.

Yes that stock turbo will push some boost but its not happy about it...

i dont care what any one says about boosting the factory turbo to 20psi, it works never any problems. my turbo has over 7000000ks on it and i put new pistons in it twice in 7 years on 20psi.

Well, replacing the pistons twice in 7 years would be concidered a problem by most people, including myself. ;)

I'd have to concur. Anytime you damage a part of the car that = problem.

Also 7,000,000 kms is more than 4million miles.

which averages out to a little less than 900 miles a day

I think the EJ22t can take 20 psi, but not from the stock turbo... and not with the stock fuel system. Nico did you lose pistons from detonation, excessive mileage (900 miles/day!! whoa... thats some driving! 9 hours a day at an average of 100mph!), or what? :D

all i no is i put 5000000ks on new pistons with that much boost. the pistons whent cuz of ks not boost.

So in less than 7 years (dunno when you replaced the pistons last) you've travelled more than 3million miles? I'd have to agree with you, 3millions miles worth of driving would probably kill a few components of a car. It would also probably kill you because noone can drive an average of more than 50 mph all day every day for 7 years (this is of course assuming you last replaced the pistons in 97 and not anytime sooner. If it was sooner your mph all day every day would be much higher than 50)

97 was when i did put the pistons in your good thawa.

Nico, are we still waiting on any proof that any of the claims wou've made about your car aren't false?

so you've driven an average of 1,200 miles every single day since 1997 :)

He seems like Terry Brennan from Ohier. I wish someone from CCS was here to get that reference.

i wish i had a video camera, the elantra was so sleeper that he called my car a crazy sleeper.

i was redlineing in 5th and he was pulling on me like he was in the f1. he put a talon turbo motor in with upgrades and nos i pray for him WOW it was INSANE.

Heh, racing an elantra, and he was pulling on you while you were doing 170mph or so? ~190mph if your '7500rpm' sig means your car can redline that high...
