 hey
i got a 1989 FWD( ) legacy 5MT with a carb'd EJ18 on it.
I was wondering how many other people on this forum have a similar car.
I am interested in swapping info and stuff and finding out if you have any tips that could help this slow car handle a bit better or perform more.

First off an ideal set-up for my exhaust would be appreciated as at the moment it has 2.5" right from the collectors something im sure cant be good ??

Some suspension tips on interchangeablility would be very much appreciated to stop the long roll the car gets when cornering, perhaps some RS suspension or would the springs not fit

I know this doesnt really belong under engine but that is the main thing i am interested in so any help would be much appreciated.

Happy Motoring Dudes

(on iclub im known as risky bisness, but for some reason i cant log in under that name anymore here)

I remember someone from the UK getting a 1.8 carbed Legacy, but he sold it, rust issues I think. So you might be the only one :)

The vast majority of us are Yanks, so we all have the FI EJ22.

Emphasize your car's strong point: handling. A car that handles good can do with a mediocre engine (a la Mini ;) ). Hopefully Legacy777, our suspension expert, can lead you to some shops he likes for Whiteline parts, who is about the only supplier of direct-fit parts for these cars.

Anyway, the first thing I'd do is tune up the engine. Just get it running good. You'll be surprised how much lost HP you'll regain by making the engine happy again. Then you can goof around with susp stuff. Good luck!

Welcome aboard :) I was the one telling you not to try to swap in fuel injection on i-club D. Like I said it's a rare ass car, one of the rarest subaru's in the world. I'd just try to keep it in great running condition. I don't really have anything constructive to add but good luck :)

Hey your not alone, I have a 92 Legacy 4WD Manual DL 1.8 Carb S/W..aka Family wagon, non-performance model lol.
The damn thing has a misfire at the moment and lacking normal power, sounds like it drops down to 3 cyls then back up to 4 when revved up. Compressions, spark plugs ok.
Cars..dont you just love them ...

You can select a Subaru, change the wheels suspension height, colour.

Any mods to car, well come on its a family wagon. Maybe a set of extractors.

Of course I need to change the wheels and there is always the option to lower the legacy

ill see what i can do about the pics, the body is dinged to shit though :(

Well the engine has been given a full working over and has nice new sparkplugs etc. all seems to be working fine, apart from some fuelling issues which should be fixed when i recondition the carburettor.
I have removed the snorkle thing from the guard but my car is missing the pipe in between the snorkle and the intake box :?
For now at least i have some flexi-piping in there and unless anyone knows of any reasons for this to be bad i might just stick with it.

I just went and had a look and found the digital camera so if anyone wants some pics i can email them or if someone wants to tell me how to put them on the net it would be appreciated.

Am i right in assuming all subies share the same stud pattern and offset?

I dunno how far this car will go but the engine is mickey so i think rust will be the only limiting factor (None so far).

Flame kit goes on tommorow to... I made it for like 20 Nz bucks so if anyone wants to know how its damn easy and kinda fun when people are tailgating you 8)
