Gen II legacy front bumper possibilities: impreza!

So, I went to a friend's house to help work on his JDM WRx EJ20G swap into his 93. Which he's also modifying the front bumper mount to accept an '01 front OBS style bumper. Along with an OBS hood, and new rear bumper, and wing, and body kit, he's trying to go for a four door 22B look.

So anyhow, I grabbed his front bumper. Took mine off, took out the styrofoam cushion, and the hard plastic 5mph piece.

Put the bumper on. None of the mounting locations but a few line up, because the bumper skin is like, a couple inches shorter... but the wheel well area does connect together right, my only problem is that I need to go see if an impreza bumper beam and assocated parts will swap. That'll give me something to fit the skin around. Until then, I have it connected good enough that it doesn't look bad, and it looks like it fits pretty well. Those who have seen it think that it looks bad ass...

next up is to see if the rear bumper is a direct swap. I tried measuring them to the best of my ability, and it looks like they are exactly the same in size and dimension.

Also, when I do get it finished and to a quality that I like, I'll dissassemble and take pictures, and make a writeup. Also, we try'd comparing hoods, impreza engine bays are the same width, but the hood is shorter because the fender goes in father at the top.

anybody find this info useful? to me, this means that i can now go out and buy the STi v5 front bumper and have a pimp kit on the car. the side skirts from rallitek for my legacy, along with the front and rear bumper from the STi v5 kit, along with my 25RS wing and a WRx hood scoop, is my eventual plan. anybody's opinoins on that?

yes, I know it's a gen II, but hey, this is a legacy board, right? ;)

I personally think cars look better unbodykitted, but that's of course, just one person's opinion

depends on the car. :P

but hearing
Until then, I have it connected good enough that it doesn't look bad,
makes me shudder. Put your other bumper back on until you get it all painted the correct colors and until you can connect it CORRECTly.

it's the same color, and it was on prtty well. but I did a little more modification and it looks great. I wish i had pictures. some repainting of my car in general would produce a very great looking car. too many paint problems.

so, was at WCSS6, which rocked, and with the open hoods and all, was able to make measurements.

1. The hood overall is slightly smaller width on the imprezas. (due to fenders)
2. the lights from passenger side meets the fender, to driver's side meets the fender, is the same distance among legacys and imprezas.
3. the grill looks like it has the same mounting spots.
4. the bumper we already know swaps
5. the fenders are the same length from door to lights/corner of hood area
6. the hood are also the same length from windshield to front end.

So, what with, the lights being curved differently, that means in order to just swap the lights, the fenders, hood, and grill need to be swapped. as they all fit together differently than the legacy front end pieces do. but, it looks like they will swap, so far. the only real way to know is to find someone or a yard that I can grab all these pieces from. I already know of a couple places to grab all the pieces, but I'd have to repaint them.

okay, so when I'm done, if all this works, here's the overall eventual plan for the car: (* means both STI, or both WRX style together.)

Stock Mica Red 947 body color
STi V5 front bumper, matched color to car
STi V5 rear bumper, matched color to car
Legacy WRC Side skirts
JDM Clear (no lines) headlights
OBS Hood (or STI hood scoop *)
WRX wing (or STI *)
possibly the hood and wing either CF or matching the car.

Some may not like the idea of changing a legacy this much, but hey, this is my car, and I'm sure there are some people out there who are interested in getting more aftermarket choice for body pieces. This, if it works, would open up all '93-'01 impreza body pieces (-minus the side skirts, haven't measured them... lol)

btw - the legacys do have a bigger engine bay. so when it comes time for a TT engine, of course, much harder to manage in the impreza. so we DO have the advantage!

Also, www.cardomain.com/id/95lawd and page 3 has the pics

sorry for it being at night. the best I can do for now. NOBODY at WCSS6 bothered to take a picture of it. But hey, there's a picture of me workin on Brian's bumper wearin my Suby Solutions shirt! http://usmb.net/gallery/album273/DSC01628

oh yeah, also, for you Gen I'ers, I'm pretty sure you can't move around and shuffle any of the body pieces of the other Gens or models. From looking at Brian's bumper and a couple of other cars, I don't even know if swapping fenders would allow any change. But not like you'd need to... maybe on a stock legacy wagon or sedan, but there's no way I'd let one of you turbo guys touch your cars in this fashion! Only acceptable mods IMO on turbo legacys are outside the realm of body kits/upgrades, lol.

It looked propper, not aftermarket or modified. Definatly looked different than stock tho :) Im not a huge fan of the Impreza L bumpers, but in comparison it cant be much worse than a Legacy L Bumper :)

Which reminds me... i need a new bumper.
