What could I have done wrong?

Here's the scenario:

Installed a Saab setup 3-4 weeks ago. Everything seemed to go okay with install, but when I drove it, the car didn't have the same punch it did before and seemed sluggish. I tried the starting fluid check and got no results.

Well on the way to work today, the PUNCH came back. The power came back better than before and felt awesome.

Then the car overheated, and sprayed antifreeze all over the enginebay.

I can only guess that the 2 have to be connected in some way.

UPdate: Ok, now that's it's cooled down I found the nipple broken off on the back of the tank.

But why would I suddenly have the huge power return?

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Mark

Curiously, how do you have a 1990 turbo legacy?

Fix the coolant leak then see what happens, seems a bit werid tho

the lack of power could be a loose fitting on the intercooler piping somewhere, and maybe something just shifted to make it good again. I know the first time i put mine on it wasnt' good enough and i ran super rich, ala lots of black smoke ;)

You did reset the ECU after you did the IC install?

The two might indeed have been related.

If the motor suddenly started making a lot more torque, it may have rocked more than usual on its mounts, putting more shear stress on the coolant nipple.

Right?

hmmmmmmmm...

No I actually didn't do that. I'm going to try and fix the tank this weekend. I'll see how the power is. I assume (I hate that word) that I just need to disconnect the battery for a while to reset the computer.

Either disconnect the negative battery terminal and press the brake pedal in for 30 seconds or pull fuse 14 labeled (EGI/TCU) for about 30 minutes.

Anytime you do a mod to the engine you should reset the computer so it can learn to utilize it. The reason your car may have been running like a dog at first is because the computer was confused and too ka while to learn. Then once it learned it seemed much faster.

Even if you do reset the computer it's a good idea to go run at a steady speed on the freeway or nice highway where you won't have to stop for lights and shift a lot for 8-10 minutes. I've found the computer learns quicker and better that way.
